Anyone have any suggestions for tankmates for my 5 (soon to be 8 ) tiger barbs? tank specs are in my signiature.
I'm considering a three-spot gourami, a ruby shark, a bristlenose pleco, and some sort of loach.
thanks! :fish:

I have a red tail shark and a few golden barbs with my tiger barbs.

I read somewhere that red tail shark (Epalzeorhynchus bicolor) can live in a smaller tank than ruby shark.

Hope it helps! :)

i would say you could put 11-12 assorted barbs, 1 male gourami, and 4 corys or one pleco.

I actually was scared to add green barbs to my tank with a Gouramis in it but it was recommended as the Gourami was aggressive and bossy. the barbs are like gossip buddies never without each other and the only thing they get hunted away from is my plec who soon shows he's boss. My gouramis seems to be up the top third of the tank where the barbs hardly ever go. If you tank is big enough and they are territorial they soon get there fish water.
I also find gouramis red and the little blue ones very difficult to keep where as I the golden on has lasted maybe because he's the boss but probably as she.

Most gouramis are very shy. My friend has 6 tiger barbs, several platis and 3 corys all with no problem. tiger barbs aint much problem aslong as you keep it to 6 or more because then they bully eachover for head of the school.

If most gouramis are mostly shy then I got the most outgoing ones in the pet store yesterday!! :) They are doing well with the tiger barbs. The male tiger barb was keeping his womans eggs in such close check that no other fish could get anywhere near it but when the gourami ventures over near the eggs the barb leaves it alone..it could be its bright colours that stop it going after it though. I find that since I put the gouramis and two bala sharks in the tank the tiger barbs have quietened down and are no longer attacking each other...
