this might seem stupid but during a fishless cycle why do you need to do a waterchange? ... surely an excess of ammonia would build up the bacteria faster?
or have i overlooked some vital point?

As i understood it you don't unless you have problems, you waterchange during a fish in cycle to keep the ammonia/nitrite low for the fish.

With the fishless if you waterchange your just chucking your ammonia away.

thats what i thought oh i thought you were meet todo it with WC's

only W/C when your Nitrites and Nitrates are high..as they can plummet your PH and stall the cycle. This happened a few time to me..This is the only reason i W/C'd

You can overdose on ammonia or a cycle stall will cause build up of all stats both needing a W/C

has mentioned w/c are not necessary during a fishless cycle unless problems occur...

Too much ammonia above 5ppm will cause the wrong bacteria to grow,a stalled cycle is where the ph drops below 6. both these may be remedied with w/c's.

But if alls well leave alone & you dont need to worry about doing w/c's. :good:

which is the benefit of a fishless cycle. Well, that and the fact that you don't have to stress out about poisoning your fish.
