Hi all,

I bought a few ghost/grass shrimp about 2 weeks ago. They were totally see through (except the digestive track) when I got them. Then they got little red spots on their tails and red bands on their antenna and some of you guys said that it was because they were grass shrimp instead of ghost shrimp.

Now, one of them has this gray/green blob in it... Is it a "saddle"? Does it mean it is female? Or is it something I should worry about?

Ch4rlie got it right, you most likely have a female!
I love watching my shrimp go about. I really want them to be happy! :)

I am not so sure generally the saddle is a bit further back.
Eg.

The yellow you can see behind the head is her saddle .

And a mix of saddled females and males to show the comparison

Thast what i thought the saddle tends to be a little back on other shrimp

I see what you all mean about placement ... But if it isn't a saddle, what is it?
It looks separate than the digestive track and it's still there today.

I have seen something like that before, but for the life of me can not remember where exactly. It could well be part of its digestive tract and only green because its been eating a lot of algea/ vegetable matter.

No algae or vegetable matter in my tank ... Just Java moss and frog micro pellets :p

The java moss can be included in the vegetable matter

, maybe I should have said vegetative material.
