Yes, I know.... and Time I have plenty of... Even if the tank finishes Cycling in the next four weeks, I won't be able to add plants or fish until July 7th when I return from vacation... I leave in two weeks and I'm gone for two weeks and my husband does not want to have to take care of fish or plants.... So, I guess I will look at it as something to look forward to when I get back from vacation.

Yes, definitely...but, it is a "no go" for me... Because I am going on vacation in two weeks and I will be gone for two weeks. My husband is not going with me, but he has told me that he does not want to be responsible for fish while I am gone... So I will just have to add fish when I get back from vacation.

Oh yes. I can see how that would be a problem. With out somebody to do very frequent water changes you cant do one safely.

Well vacation usually will take you mind off having to wait for fish..

I was going to say just about what @Retired Viking said in post #12. You could add some plants and it would actually be for the best at this point. This would be a great time to do that driftwood thing you mentioned. Also, the plants can get rooted before the fish rip them up.

Unfortunately, my husband does not want to even be responsible for plants, let alone fish, when I go away on vacation in two Weeks

UPDATE: I tested my tank water tonight... Ammonia is at 0.25ppm or lower, and Nitrites are between 2.0 and 4.0 ppm!!! So, I added Dose #2 of Ammonia. Getting closer to the finish line! I am thinking my tank will be cycled by the time I am back from vacation in 4 weeks. I hope to be able to add a "snack" does of Ammonia, and possibly another Dose before I leave for vacation!! So excited!!

Day 16 of a fish less Cycle....
My 55 gallon tank sits empty, desperately begging for fish,
The beautiful driftwood silently beckons for java moss and anubias,
The sand longs for a busy shoal of cories to sift through it,
The LED lights shine down with hope, but no photosynthesis is taking place,
The water is sadly devoid of little reflective bodies gracefully cutting through it,
The black background calls out for the contrast of vibrant green plants,
Despite the torture, I will stay the course, but it will not be easy....
Knowing that I am doing the right thing will help me to be patient?
As I sit quietly watching my imaginary fish, and my blank canvas, I hear a voice off in the distance...

"Mom, what are you doing!?! You know there are no fish in that tank, right?"

Leave it to my 15 year old to be a voice of reason... LOL...

I just went through same thing recently on my 55gal i finally posted pics uggghhhh. I waited a MONTH til I got good #'s. But I was FULLY planted the entire time. I have 7 healthy tanks but no expert.

BUT PERSONAL opinion. Plant tank now. The plants will help kick cycle through quicker.

Plus nicer to look at while you wait.

Is he willing to drop a few pellets of food in every few days to make some ammonia?
