Well while at the local pet store I saw two huge tadpoles so when I got home I googled lol and I found the amazing world of vivariums. I decide I must have one. I made a deal with my mom where if I don't get the new baby rat I was planning on and do extra chores in a month I can set one up! I'll probablly have about $80 dollars to spend total so it can't be huge. I was thinking a 10 gallon or a 10 gallon breeder if they make them. What size do you guy's suggest? I was looking at fire belly newts but frogs also interest me what are some one that swim and live on land to? Well any input is appreciated :)

My experience is with chinese fire bellied newts.

However do you want more land based, more water based or a mix of both.

Caudata in my footer is a site for newts salamanders and frogs. if you look on theatre you might get a better idea of what you are looking for.

For vivs there is also options of lizards, geckos and such.

Your 1st thing is to decide which frog, I have 4 different types of frogs. From dart frogs to tree frogs they all. eat differnt foods and have different tanks for their for example humidity. Hardest part of darts is their food souce, less us know what your going for

I think I'd like a mix of both as I want the challange of making the water and land part. I will deffinately be checking out that webstie. Thanks for the quick replies.

Well lets see I can get a 10 gallon tank for about $13 but I think a 20 long would be so much better. Does anyone have any idea where I can get or order one? For the filter I'm thinking this or I could shell out for the pre-decorated version. Here's a very basic plan (I'll talor it to fit what ever species I decide; which I still haven't)
I plan to do the glass slanted to give extra water area. I'll use wood or make rock stairs or something for easy entry and exit. So what do you guys suggest. I want something that's either active in both the water and land or two different things; one for just water, and one that's mostly for the land.

These are a regular stock item at Petsmart. Maybe even Petco, but I haven't personaly seen them there (although I haven't looked at Petco, because I know I can get them at Petsmart).

Can't wait to see how the project turns out! I was thinking of setting up a Paludarium myself, but I am still working with my other numerous tanks trying to get a decent setup lol.

sorry to say but IMO your off to bad start and you will end up with very unhappy frogs. You dont build tank and stick in whatever you like. You choose your pets and build around them. Some frogs like land space and not to climb, other only like to climb. you also may decide on a species that need more the 10 gallons in space and they will do is fight and die in the end. keeping frogs is not like fish where you can just fill a tank and the fish will be happy. Oh and you will find depending which frog you get they are actully bad swimmers and will drown so all that water may be completly unnessary hope it helps you

It looks like this member is just finding a tank to fit a budget, and then trying to find an animal that will fit the tank. Asking on here is a wise decision, and once we suggest something, then the member can do more research on it and make sure that the setup will work. :)

Yes DarkGoby is right. I don't have big bucks so am looking for something that will do well in a smaller tank. I haven't settled on frogs and most deffinately not tree frogs, as there won't be a bunch of head space. I know I want something that swims and I already said I would tailor the tank to fit my species. So BigBruiser If you'd have ready my post correctly you'd have seen that.
Any way I've been looking at the fire belly newts and they seem cool. (Can you keep any fish with them or will they eat them?) Also I heard something about thumbnail frogs but I'm not sure which species these are.

Is not recommended to keep fish with newts, depending on the species done require land and some don't.

I think your tank will be better as a fully aquatic tank with a small land mass, even if it was a floating turtle dock or something.

Fire bellied toads are quite petty and they needed both land and water but I'm not that sure about frogs/toads.

oh i see well you wont need any advise from me only breed dart/thumbnails, good luck with your pets

Thanks anyway BigbruiserAl.

And Dipsy I'll think about that but I'd really like to try and make the land. If I can find a 20 long I will but that instead of a 10 btw.
