I'm thinking of adding tiger barbs to my tank.

I've recently sold all my mollies and guppies as I've lost total interest in them after I had a tank crash and they just didn't seem to hold the same value to me as my old lot did.

Now my tank looks completely empty.
When I went to restock I saw the tiger barbs but was advised against them as I had some mollies and guppies in my tank so I followed the advice given as they wouldn't be a good tank mate for the fish i had.

I'm thinking of adding possibly 10 tiger barbs to my tank and another 3 blue spotted females will this be too much for my tank??

I currently have 2 blue spotted gourami's and 1 rainbow shark ( who today killed my other much smaller
Rainbow shark )

I have a rio 400 (450L) with a total max of 3900lph filtration turn over.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Would not recommend the barbs with the gourami's.

I wouldn't advise tiger barbs with any fish that have long fins.. Such as gouramis. Have you thought about five banded barbs instead? They look so much like tiger barbs but don't have the "fin nipping" reputation :)

See what happens if it doesn't work bring the tiger barbs back to the store

No need, we know what will happen! Go for pentazona (five banded) barbs instead. I have some, very placid but striking.

Sorry for late replie ill google that barb and its annoying trying to find compatible fish that I like thanks for advice guys

If you go with tiger barbs, you'll have even more trouble finding anything to go with them! I've had tigers for getting on 20 years, and I've found very few things that can be kept with them; plecs mostly.

I have tiger barbs with angels and the barbs are fine. If you want to try, I would recommend starting with 3 smaller size tigers and seeing how that goes. GL! :good:

barbs do not make very good community type fish,

barbs should really only be kept with other barbs, and in large schools,

you should have a minimum 6-8 of any type of barb,

so unless you plan on getting rid of your current fish and having a "barb only" tank, i would not recommend barbs with the fish you currently have

Well that sorts the barbs out then as of a hour ago I've seen my rainbow pushing his weight around with my 2 gourami's and my oldest female gourami bossing the other female around and im gurssing. This is doen to all the free space they now have. so I'm now thinking I need to add a few more say 5 females.

Would angels be ok in my tank with proposed fish ???

I've got Tiger Barbs with Zebra Loach, all get along very nicely. Both pretty tough I guess.

I kept zebra loach with my tigers for many years, but I've mysteriously lost all the loach in the last few months. I can't, for definite, say it was the tigers that killed them, but they showed no signs of illness :/

Whoa that is odd.

Would other Loach go ok with Tigers? I've been thinking about some different species soon.

Would not recommend Angels with the Gourami's either, sorry. Some people here have them and claim they get along fine but there is a good chance of that changing as they mature.
