I was thinking of starting up a forum dedicated to general animals, based more around rescuing and such, do you think there would be interest in a forum like this?
actually, i believe that several other members have done this in the past... i'd do a quick search for "+animal +forum" in Household Pets and see what's already out there.
I really don't know... there are so many forums already out there that it is really hard to establish a good one and get members to sign up. I created a rodent/small animal one a few years back, had a ton of people wanting to sign up, but it died after a few weeks since people were already dedicated to other forums.
yeah plus its a PITA to start up a new forum since theres so much better things out there such as Pet Owner Clubs and associations. Even myspace has some well established pet forums.
You could always give up on the forum idea and put your time into doing a charity auction or fundraising for your local rescue instead? That way you still meet people interested in talking about rescue animals, and do something practical to help them at the same time?
There's loads of forums out there already, well established ones, and as I've learned in the past - it's nigh on impossible to start up such a broad spectrum new one. The only reason my site Groovy Greys was so successful was because it was a forum with a chat room for people with rescue greyhounds and lurchers who weren't interested in talking about racing or hunting - and there wasn't one previously. Kind of a bit more specific, you get me?
