they all made it safe and sound from texas to massachusetts!! :flex: 5 girls and 2 boys are finally at my house (after having to sit in my office all afternoon :p ). the girls will join the ones i already have in the 20 gal, and the boys will join my ever expanding crew!! i will post pics soon! YAY!!!! thanks wuv!!

awww, I love hearing of a safe and happy landing. I was especially worried with this one since it's like we're from completely different planets with such climate changes.

okay they are all in the tank. my 2 girls started eating the plants and exploring. wuv's first girl planted her self in a plant and is just chillin... the other 4 have paired off and started sparring with each other!!! they have some nips in their tails!!! ARGH!!! what to do? should i let them have it out? feed them? help please!!

Definately keep an eye on them, are these red girls or ones who have been jarred? Do they have plenty of hiding places?

they are red girls... i don;t think they were jarred. they aren't even trying to hide! they are lined up sided by side and wagging their tails at each other, like a male guppy does when he is courting a female. there does not appear to be 1 getting picked on, but 4 fighting amongst themselves...
there are a bunch of plants, driftwood and terra cotta pots to hide in/around but other than the first girl from wuv, no one is using them!!

and i was worried about my 2 girls, as they are smaller and have been jarred as long as i have had them!

You know I would say that they are just establishing a pecking order in their new tank, really really watch them and I'll bet they'll settle in :) Always have a back up plan though and watch for if it goes too far -_-

Agreed.
They've only been seperated for less than two days, like 36 hours max. What brats  Everybody wants to be Queen B

Watch one of your original two girls step up and put them all in their place

well.. i turned the lights off for about 20 min, and the aggression continued, when i turned them back on, the girls started to discover the hiding spots....

then sumatra discovered thet there were other girls in there too!!! she is all barred up and flaring at the red girls who are a little beat up and now they are afraid of her!!! she is the littlest one in there, and i think she may come out as the queen bee!! although one of the red girls is putting up a bit of a fight!

i think (hope) the worst is over!

heh heh

Ya know, the little ones are spunky!! Sometimes when I find torn fins and I watch for the culprit, it's usually one of the smallest ones swimming around and randomly picking on siblings. I guess they have to let their 'authoritah' be known. "I may be little, but ya better respect me!"

I hope it evens out. I hope the girls settle in soon enough.

so this morning's update...

sumatra is the queen...and she is quite the little #%^@%^#@. she finds the girls in their resting/hiding spots and scares them out! i think her new found power has gone to her head!

i have a piece of driftwood that has 3 holes in it, one on top of the other and i found 2 of the red girls resting in there...they were like fishy condos!!! well, until sumatra saw them there!

so, here is the day 4 update!!!

MG boy - named merlin because he looks kinda magical/mystical. he is GORGEOUS. he has a very "pouty" mouth. i think he is a supermodel. i almost changed his named to zoolander! he has the very beginnings of a bubblenest.

Red plakat male - named dave (after dave matthews my favorite singer in the whole world). he lives in a tank with one of these "no fishing" type signs, but it says "don't drink the water" he has a good little nest built. he is a beautiful vivid red. he is my first plakat!

5 red girls- they seem to have sorted themselves out, now i am trying to sort them out and be able to tell them apart and name them. i named one lacey, because her tail got fairly beat up and looks kinda lacey. one girl is a little more red than the others, i named her rosie.

i still need 3 more names for the girls, if anyone has a suggestion!
i will get pics soon, i need new batteries for the cam!

uh-oh...i just ordered some more plants!! i will have to be careful not to move things around too much when i put them in!
