Would a 50 watt heater work in a 55 gallon tank

work yes, heat it to your desired temp and then not blowing prob not, you will need a 200-250w heater in there :good:

I kno it sounded kind of ignorant I just wanted to know because I really dont want to spend on a new heater

You generally need at least 1W per litre of water in your tank to keep it at the right temperature and not risk blowing the heater.

I tend to use two heaters in a tank.......just in case one goes skeewiffle...... Also connecting them via a STC 1000 or something of the sort to be extra sure.......not a pleasant sight to see either boiled or frozen fish.......just my thought really..

In a 500ltr is a good idea mate. IMO anything under 200Li would use 1 they tend to get on the ON position rather then fail to heat

How much did you spend on the tank, the filter, the lights, the stand, the fish, and the substrate. All together ?? And you dont want to spend £11 on a new heater ? Really ?

Here, if this helps.....http://www.rockbottomaquatics.co.uk/aqua-one-aquarium-heater.html

Now quit moaning about buying a new heater and don't be such a cheapskate, lol. B-)

I don't know what it's like around your way, but that's never happened to me in my LFS. Probably worth reporting them if they're pulling innocent customers' pants down, that's just not right.
