I was planning on getting the ingredients this weekend!

Can't wait to try it, even going to make an onion gravy to go with it, and that horseradish idea.....definitely trying that!

When I told hubby about YP his words were, "Oh that, we were served that every Friday, take a bun and add gravy"!

Well, I will show him "bun and add gravy", I will make toad in a hole, yummmmmmm!

Good luck, and horseradish is my favourite with YP

Get the creamed HR though as otherwise it is a bit dry.

Ooohhh good luck Meeresstille! Don't forget to post an original and then a confirmation pic (as in POTM and add the month as my omitting it almost got me disqualified - RCA is such a harsh task-master! lol)
It is all part of the game my

Yes, I recall your pop-overs but they are only part YP!  We look forward to seeing your entry in September, as we may well have other competitors willing to join you.  Make a note in your diary

Enjoy your looooonnnnnngggggg vacation.  What role do you play at STEM camps?

Pre-camp:
Curriculum coordinator, hiring agent, field trip coordinator

During camp:
Daily introducer, fill-in, extra hands, nose blower, disciplinarian.... and anything else needed but not mentioned. :p

loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnggggggg?  Maybe, but I need it. ;)

It gets plenty of folks from those competitions too... :p

OK, tonight's the night! I have all the ingredients. I know, I said I was going to cook it on the weekend, but at an outside temperature of 39 Celsius (102 F) I was not going to turn on the oven!

So, today being 19 degrees Celsius, it will be nice to cook that Toad in a Hole. The sausages will be served on the side, since our vegetarian daughter would otherwise not touch it. The ingredients that will make up the "Toad" part are leek and tomatoes!

Off to make that YP of the month sign now...I admit I'm a little worried that I am going to embarrass myself...oh well....

Here's our Toad in the Hole with Sausages on the side.
It was so good, even my husband wants me to make it again, lol! :)

Hi all...

time to begin...

Time to start a journal on your Cooking abilities of a Yorkshire Pudding.

It is like a journal so get
photo.gif

Let the fun begin

Australia vs USA
with
TallTree01 vs Eaglesaquarium

Do you want to join them?

A bit of background, then onto the challenge... well... we all love food, we are all competitive and we all love derailing other people's threads... need we say more?

Only thing I've ever heard about Yorkshire is Yorkshire pudding... but I don't even know what that is....

You can also get GIANT ones filled with all the lovely meal inside
I

them with horseradish sauce.
I believe the original idea was to eat them before the meal in order to use less meat.  Nowadays we Yorkshire Folk like them with the meat

Eagles and TT - I challenge you to make a "Toad in the Hole" and report back on what you thought.

Great, but how do I make one?
Basically cook a hollow pastry and then chuck some meat and gravy in there.
PS. The broccoli in that pic really made me
sick.gif
. lol. Do I have to put broccoli in there?

Brocolli is optional! lol
Making Yorkshire puds is both an art and a science. I was 40 before I could make a decent one! lol
You could always cheat and buy the frozen ones that only take 4 mins to reheat and they are quite good.

My wife has started making her own pizza crust and dinner rolls from scratch... we want AUTHENTIC food.
wink.png

I have 4.5 years to try to get my pudding right...  I accept the challenge!

So the challenge is on, so far TT is in the lead although we are unsure precisely what he has made or eaten!

I made it!!! Well... Sort of
I Chucked some gravy, sausages and potato in a pastry cup.

The verdict:
yum. can't believe you yorkshireers get to eat this all the time. Flavor may have been ruined by my own

So let the challenge begin - want to join in?  Feel free...the more Countries/Members the better...

This is making me so hungry! That looked really good... Doesn't look very hard either.. hmm...

Ooo that looks delicious Meeresstille! Glad your husband enjoyed it too!
Nice to see a vegetarian variation and of course the main star is the Yorkshire Pudding!
OK so now I guess we have to set a deadline and a date for the judging.
Over to you RCA!

Excellent, so glad you all enjoyed it.  I like the look with the Tomatoes in the middle.  Why are two of your sausages another colour?

to the TFF and well done for coming across our little bit of Yorkshire fun.  We would be happy for you to join in with the competition and I am happy to keep it open a little longer for you to join us.  What do you think?  Oh, and do not forget the verification shot ;)

@ Mamashack, lets see if we have another keen contestant then we can set a date, do you have any in mind?  We have missed this, so need to note it in our diaries for next year.  Are there any other key anniversary's we could tie it to?

Well it looks like Elaineylane is following the thread so why don't we ask her if she would like to participate and take it from there?

When I saw all these different sausages I had a hard time deciding so we bought 3 different kinds.

At first I had forgotten to serve the horseradish so had to have a second helping, lol!

Whoever came up with that idea is a genius!!! The idea of horseradish I mean, ha ha. (burp...pardon me)

Thanks, Mamashack! Too bad we can't share food over the internet! Maybe you can give it a try yourself with tomatoes and leeks? :)

I will certainly try that, Meeresstille! It's been a while since I did my original pud so I might make another this week and will let you know how it goes.

4th of July has special meaning to me.  :p

That would be almost 3 months after RCA started this thread.
Btw finally managed to watch your popover/YP/Dutch baby video - wouldn't stream for me before but last night it did. Very entertaining!

Well I did not design Horseradish but I
wub.png
it and propose it is always eaten with YP.  It is actually generally eaten with Roast Beef, and is great in Beef sandwiches, but I do
wub.png
it with YP's too, so hopefully I am part genius

Thanks eagles... but I thought you were not planning to compete in this competition at present?  Have you changed your mind?

What I propose as the cut of date is ....

...to fall in line with the other competitions on the TFF, it will be ...

excl.png
 THIS ROUND OF THE COMPETITION
will close for entries and nominations on 14th June 2013
excl.png

so get cooking if you still wish to take part
and don't forget
your verification photo, which should ideally have the month on it
yes.gif

(just so you do not enter the same one again another time,
although I am sure you love it so much you would do it all again
drool.gif
 )

I'm not planning on it... just mentioning that if you wanted a date with meaning, that works for anyone in the US!

I'm glad you enjoyed it!  Its a very different approach to a cooking show than most.
