The Yorkshire Pudding Challenge - You Up For It?

I was planning on getting the ingredients this weekend! 

  Can't wait to try it, even going to make an onion gravy to go with it, and that horseradish idea.....definitely trying that!
 
When I told hubby about YP his words were, "Oh that, we were served that every Friday, take a bun and add gravy"! 
 
Well, I will show him "bun and add gravy", I will make toad in a hole, yummmmmmm!

   Get the creamed HR though as otherwise it is a bit dry.

During camp:
Daily introducer, fill-in, extra hands, nose blower, disciplinarian.... and anything else needed but not mentioned.

OK, tonight's the night! I have all the ingredients. I know, I said I was going to cook it on the weekend, but at an outside temperature of 39 Celsius (102 F) I was not going to turn on the oven! 
 
So, today being 19 degrees Celsius, it will be nice to cook that Toad in a Hole. The sausages will be served on the side, since our vegetarian daughter would otherwise not touch it. The ingredients that will make up the "Toad" part are leek and tomatoes! 
 
Off to make that YP of the month sign now...I admit I'm a little worried that I am going to embarrass myself...oh well....

A bit of background, then onto the challenge... well... we all love food, we are all competitive and we all love derailing other people's threads... need we say more?
 
 

Only thing I've ever heard about Yorkshire is Yorkshire pudding... but I don't even know what that is....

 

You can also get GIANT ones filled with all the lovely meal inside.

I believe the original idea was to eat them before the meal in order to use less meat.  Nowadays we Yorkshire Folk like them with the meat

Great, but how do I make one?
Basically cook a hollow pastry and then chuck some meat and gravy in there.
PS. The broccoli in that pic really made me

Making Yorkshire puds is both an art and a science. I was 40 before I could make a decent one! lol
You could always cheat and buy the frozen ones that only take 4 mins to reheat and they are quite good.

 
My wife has started making her own pizza crust and dinner rolls from scratch... we want AUTHENTIC food.

 
I have 4.5 years to try to get my pudding right...  I accept the challenge! 

 
So the challenge is on, so far TT is in the lead although we are unsure precisely what he has made or eaten!
 
 

I made it!!! Well... Sort of
I Chucked some gravy, sausages and potato in a pastry cup.

The verdict:
yum. can't believe you yorkshireers get to eat this all the time. Flavor may have been ruined by my own

At first I had forgotten to serve the horseradish so had to have a second helping, lol!

Well I did not design Horseradish but I

 it and propose it is always eaten with YP.  It is actually generally eaten with Roast Beef, and is great in Beef sandwiches, but I do

 it with YP's too, so hopefully I am part genius
