Because I loooove posting pictures of my critters, I couldn't resist posting in this section any longer.
So without further ado, my critters!
Primo (Nova)
This is my yearling Saddlebred/Paint gelding. He's a sweetie, and even remembers his manners even though he's been out on pasture pretty much since April. I bought him last November because his owner was moving and had to sell him. At the time, I bought him mostly because she really wanted me to have him (I had the most experience out of anyone who contacted her about him) and he was cheap. I figured if I didn't like him, I could always just sell him later on, and take my time finding him a good home. Well... He wormed his way into my heart, and he's pretty much a keeper now!
(This is Nova sporting the very un-masculine pink halter my friend bought for him as a joke!)
CPH Royal By Design (Sudha)
This is my other yearling, a registered Paint filly. Who is for sale, if anyone is interested. I had a Thoroughbred mare that I had to sell (because due to an injury she was unrideable) and Sudha's breeder contacted me, wanting to trade. I thought about it for quite a while, but when no one else wanted her, I did the trade. Su is just the sweetest horse I've ever dealt with, and she's going to grow up to be an awesome horse for someone.
Dawn's Finest (Dawn)
Dawn is a five year old, Thoroughbred mare, never raced. And also my other impulse buy. Her owner was selling her because she'd gotten into a car accident and wouldn't be riding anytime soon. We actually went to look at Dawn as a horse for my mom, but I ended up really liking her. So I bought her! The plan is that she's going to be my riding horse until I can ride Nova (so probably for three years) and then I'll either sell her, or lease her out to someone. Dawn's proving to be a bit of a challenge, but I think with the help of my trainer, we'll get things worked out and become a wonderful team!
Metis Skywalker (Skye)
This is my dad's 16 yr old Morgan gelding. But, I'm the one who rides him 99% of the time. Skye is a blast to ride. He's one of these that you can leave sit in the pasture for months, and then hop on and he's not going to do anything weird or crazy to you. It's actually amazing how well he takes to new and scary things, and he's always impressing me with what he'll let me do with him.
(That's a tailbag on his tail... He looooves to tear his tail out on the fence, and this stops him from succeeding!)
Kaila's Breeze (Kaila)
This is my mom's old girl. She's 22 this year, is a Morgan/Quarter Horse cross, and has some bad arthritis in her front knees. She's very much a case of the mind is more than willing, but the body just can't handle it. We took her to the mountain's with us last year, and she stepped off the trailer and went, "I'm baaaack!". It was great to see. Unfortunately, this year she's been reduced to Nova's adoptive mommy. Yep, she's the resident babysitter, and I'm not really sure how she feels about that.
Rhythm
This is mom's new girl. She's not registered, but was raised by an elderly lady who tells us she's five, and is a Morgan/Thoroughbred cross. I don't see much Morgan in there, and I prefer to think of her as having some Arabian in there! Rhythm wasn't even started this spring when we bought her (same time as Dawn), and we actually just got back from our trip to the mountains, and Rhythm was just amazing! Except for a strong dislike of big white rocks, she was great. We also refer to her and Dawn as twins, because they're marked very similarly.
(That's me riding her in a lesson this summer)
Okay, that's it for the horses, now on to the dogs! Thankfully, we only have two.
Kalypso
This is our (or in reality, Mom's) aged Border Collie/Aussie cross (as far as we can figure... She's from the SPCA). We got her when she was about six months old. When we went to look at her, she was completely psycho... But by the time my dad came home from work, she was snoozing on the kitchen floor like she'd lived here her whole life. She's been just a wonderful dog, and we have absolutely no complaints with her. It's a shame that she's starting to go deaf, and she can't go for rides with us anymore because of the arthritis in her hips.
Shauni
And lastly, this is my Shauni-bear! He's a Belgian Sheepdog, and if I remember correctly, he's six or seven this year. I ended up getting him from his breeder for free! I was working for her (cleaning up lots of dog poo and feeding, and then watching them while she was gone... She had 11 dogs), and she kept saying she'd give me Shauni. Well, it took me a year to talk my dad into letting me try him out for a month. Well, we took him, and he never went back! He's absolutely my dog too, because he's very attached to me and will follow me everywhere (which is exactly what I wanted in my own dog!). Anyway, he's my special boy, and I love him to death most of the time.
Well, that's it for now folks. Hope you enjoyed lookin' at my pets!
