I'm replacing my neon tetras that died off with purple harlequin rasboras. The quarantine tank is ready but I'm having a little bit of a difficult time getting a hold of them. One local place had them a couple of weeks ago but I wasn't ready for them yet. I've been calling around and right now, one place has two and that's it. I want 8 of them. I'm thinking of grabbing those two and just adding to them as I can find them. I might even round up to 8 with 2 or 3 of the regular red harlequins. They'd stay in the quarantine tank until 4-6 weeks after I complete the set and get all 8.
I could order them online but that's a lot extra for the shipping and I don't want to pay all that.
The local aquarium group is tonight. I should stop by and see if I can find anything there.

Today is when the local places get in new stock. I'll make some calls. If they have some, I'll do a big water change on the quarantine tank tonight and swing by to get them tomorrow.

I've done several orders from Wet Spot, they are also really good, in my experience.. & they have them in stock, minimum of 6...

I ran the numbers up to 25, & it let me do that ( usually stops at their stock level ) so they likely have at least that many... they only have wild caught, no tank raised

I've heard good things about them too.
But I have enough local places that I can save the mailing costs if I'm just a little patient.

I decided not to be patient anymore. After a few weeks of constantly calling every fish store in the area and coming up short, I placed an order online. Dan's doesn't carry them and The Wet Spot doesn't have them in stock. I almost went with Flip Aquatics but they were out of stock before I could order them. Other vendors (if they had them in stock) had really bad reviews and word of mouth or the price was more than I was willing to pay (or both). I found a place in Florida called Quinn's Fins. Online word of mouth on them was fairly good and the price was reasonable enough. So I'm giving them a shot. I ordered a couple of days ago.

I've never heard of this outfit and would appreciate your opinion once the order arrives. :)

Will do. If this goes well, I'd love to give them some positive word of mouth.
Thanks, I'm always interested in possible options. I pretty much exclusively use Dan's Fish as their warehouse is right next to my apartments and I don't have to pay any shipping but options are always good. ;)

I would have loved to have ordered from Dan's again. But they didn't have what I wanted.

Funny thing with Dan's is that they may actually have the fish you want but for not long enough. They actually quarantine for a month or two to be sure that the fish are 'clean and healthy'. This is actually one of the things I like about them. You can be assured that any fish they send is free of disease and/or parasites. They actually receive fish that are not up to their standards for sale and have tanks in their warehouse for such to give them the best life they can with no intent for selling. I REALLY respect this.

I've been checking them for a while and never saw them listed. I'm sure I'll do business with them again though.

I just got them in today. One didn't survive the trip. It got caught in a fold of the bag and was above the water line. I don't think that's really anyone's fault. But I ordered 10 and they sent me 11 so that evened out. They're in the quarantine tank now. I'll see how the next few days go.
