The Precipice

Just to see what happens, I bought some glosso. I'm still deciding where it's going to go, but I'm leaning towards the center area of the tank in front of the slate cave.

And I'm sad to report that I had to take two Kribs back to the store today. I've had ongoing trouble with juveniles turning out to be male, so I had one little female in a mated pair with the big male, and two other males who were so bullied one wouldn't leave a corner, and another that would get beaten up anytime he came out to eat. The girl was never bothered by the other males, and she keeps showing for the alpha. They mated once, but the eggs dint make it over night, so I'm hoping with no more competition, the male will become less aggressive and they will spawn again.

Terrible picture, but the Kribs spawned! They must be happier now that they are in there alone. Shes in the cave 'kissing' them... I'm guessing she's cleaning or circulating the water around? Papa bear is being super protective of anyone who comes near the cave. Here's hoping try number 2 goes better than the first attempt.

I'll see if I can get a better picture once my real camera is charged.

A week and a half later, and thinking that the eggs were eaten again and I have fry!

I have about 10 little wrigglers in there who are feeding on the plant debris over in my val, so I'll have to wait a while until I can clean up in there unfortunately. Photographing them isn't an easy task, but I have a feeling I'll be getting better as I'll be in there lots trying to capture them!

In plant news, things are looking great in there right now. The sessafloria has taken off, and I really need to trim it down. The glosso didn't make it, so I've picked up some micro sword to give that a go. I need to move a few things around again, so pictures once I can get in there without disrupting the new little family.

I'm not able to edit the picture as I would like to, so it's not the best pic, but here's an update. I added in some sessafloira for a fast grower, and a green tiger lotus. As much as I didn't want to go jungle, it seems that's where im heading! I'm really happy with how some of my plants are starting to work out. The Crypt Pontederiifolia is starting to get a little red algae on it, but I think I just need to lower the photo period, and get some more ferts in there. The sessafloria grows way too fast, and I have to trim and bin quite often, but my other algae growth has minimized, so it's doing it's job.

Looks like only one krib fry has made it to a month, and that's ok. I left it up to mom and pop to look after them, and pops was really devoted, and never left them alone. I'm just going to wait and see what happens... how long this one lasts, and how the next spawn goes. If they keep this up, I may look into a breeding tank for them.

And my lfs finally got some shrimp in, and they are awesome! I picked up 3, and already lost them in the jungle. I can't wait until they get all red and purdy!
