last week the cost a 1st class stamp went up to 61p i sent a small packet of vallis out yesterdy and it normally costs me £1.50ish its now £2.70!!!

i think this is a joke seeing my postman is crap i never get my post till gone 3pm
the thing is i am a postman and i cant beleive the prices we have not been given a pay rise or anything so were is the extra money going??

i am completely disgusted with the way the royal mail is ran (even tho i work for them )

and the best part is we are being told by the end of the year a 1st class stamp will be £1

To pay for the bonuses of the bosses????? :grr: :grr:

Yeah its a joke mate, just flogged a load of stuff on ebay and I seriously outpriced myself on the postage as I, like you wasn't expecting such a price hike as that! Nearly 50%!!!

i cudnt beleive the price increase we got told at work it will be risen but i never expected such a rise, sending plants on here is going to be so much expensive

Glad I stocked up on 1st class stamps before the hike.
It's going to affect a lot of online sellers.
I was going to sell some of my Mopani wood, but think it'll have to be collection only now

Royal Fail!

I remember the days post used to be delivered before 7 and 1st class was next day. Lucky to get it before the afternoon now.

The Royal Mail is diabolical, it'd be pretty neat if a viable rival could provide competition, only then will we get a better service.

I think RM are caught in a catch 22. Less people are using the postal service and are instead turning to emails for letters and couriers for parcels. Because they're not getting the money coming in, they're forced to put their prices up. Because prices have gone up, more people turn to email and couriers. Prices go up again, and the cycle goes on. I don't think RM will be able to carry on in its current format for a lot longer. I expect to see major changes within the next decade (and that's a conservative estimate).

Royal Mail kindly turned up with my parcel and our mail at nearly 5pm today!! Meant to be a morning delivery lol, normally before 10 latest!

Not only that but the guy had to apologize because he had forgotten two bags of mail and there was another parcel for us? Great.. was my brothers car part and he cant drive to work now

Royal Fail indeed!

surely this would mean less postmen/sorters/post offices to pay though?? Making it a service without the massive price hike. They need to be careful as they will price themselves out of the market. Over the last year or so i've noticed it's actually cheaper to go to your LFS (order in) than buy off the Internet, the postage normally puts the price higher than it should be. Then you lose a day waiting for delivery.

I work for RM and would like to put a few things straight, the whole mess that is RM is completely down to upper management they couldn't run a p*ss up in a brewery,us posties would love to get your deliverys out early but we are not allowed to, in our office we can not go out the door until 10am and with a planned delivery of 4 hours that takes us up to at least 2pm and thats if we have a quiet day if its really busy you can put another hour on that.
The rise in the price of postage is a pretty complicated one, its down to the company losing money, not because the fall in mail volumes that RM would like you to believe, we are actually delivering more than we ever have done believe me my back knows it,its down to us delivering more and more competitors mail at a loss, have a look at the top right hand corner of an envelope and notice who that mail came from, tnt, uk mail deutche post and so on you wont see much with either RM on it or a stamp and we deliver all that at a loss because the postal regulator up until now has not allowed RM to compete on the price structure.
I could go on and bore the socks off people but it just annoys me that us the humble posty always seem to get the stick off the public when its not our fault we are just the donkeys who carry the stuff around.

I don't blame the posties at all. I know what it's like to work at the bottom of a chain and getting stick for rule enforced my management who haven't got a clue.

Whatever the reasons though, RM is poorly managed.

The new pricing of parcels has been really badly thought up IMO, I sell aquatic supplies and a few feet of background and a bottle of 10ml bottle of esha now both cost £2.20 to post, whereas I used to pay 75P and £1.33 respectively!

Also I wouldn't mind too much about the increase if the RM upped their game and managed to actually get the parcels to their destination, but IME too many are getting lost in transit or damaged by idiots not reading fragile stickers or simply throwing them as i saw one local postie do when he was taking them from the post office to his van.

So once again the postie is the idiot, i'm sick of people knocking us, I don't know of any other job that gets slagged off as much as ours, people want to try doing the job after a week I think their ideas might change, yes there are people who don't do the job properly but that happens in every walk of life so don't call every postman an idiot!
Also where do you get your figures from or are you another one who just makes statements about missing post without any numbers to back up the statement, people have this illusion that there is a mountain of mail that goes missing its simply not true, there is some mail that doesnt get to where it should but think about it when you are moving over 60 million items a day mistakes happen and the amount of wrongly addressed items we see every day is incredible but once again we get the blame for that not reaching its intended destination even though its addressed incorrectly.
