I see what you mean about him being paler, does he change colour at all or is he always that pale, I'm assuming he was darker when you got him. The reason I ask is that there are some 'dwarf plecs' that are a bit chameleon like and display darker colours when resting on dark surfaces.

Have you looked on Planet Catfish to see if you can identify him? If he's a true 'dwarf plec' then it's most likely he's one of the Parotocinclus species that only grow to about 2".

What other symtoms is he displaying? As with all problems, it may be down to water quality (it can appear fine on the test charts but have something dodgy that you can't test for), I'd do frequent small water changes just to be on the safe side, say 5-10% daily.

It's hard to tell from a photo like that, but I don't think it's a Parotocinclus. Edited to add: After tweaking the photo it's still hard to tell, but he looks like a young common plec (liposarcus pardalis).

Paler patches would indicate stress colouration.

I really don't see how you can get anything other than colour from that photo :p I was looking at it thinking it looked exactly like the blurry photos I took of my Parotocinclus!

Ah well hopefully Himmel will be able to find it by looking at some of the photos on PC, or maybe borrow someone's camera with a macro mode and get some better shots for us. :good:

I did say it was hard to say, but having lightened it up and sharpened it in Photo Impression, it looked more common plec to me. I'm rubbish at technical terms for fish anatomy, but it's dorsal doesn't look Parotocinclus, and the fin in between the dorsal and tail isn't quite right either. That with the shape of the head and pectoral fins made it look liposarcus to me, but again I'm no expert and the photo is very very difficult to judge from, although Himmel did say it looked like an identical but smaller plec to his/her other common.
