The name of this fish escapes me...

I can't remember what this fish is called! It is an algae eater, looks almost like a very small stingray, is about 1.5 inches long. I am sure that someone knows what this little guy is called. Thanks in advance for the help guys!

My LFS just calls them "Butterfly Plecostomus." I bet if you did a search on the net with that, you might find the Latin name.

I did a search, and I came up with a bunch of leads, all pertaining to actual butterfly plecos, which are striped and look like a pleco. So the search goes on, thanks for trying to help though cichlid_freak, isn't it wierd how pet stores butcher names sometimes?

they are not a plec! They are a loach form borneo/sumatra, Malaysia, Hong Kong. Tha natural habitat of the Borneo Loach is fast flowing hill streams. Great fish mainly a coldwater fish althou I know people who keep them in aquariums.

I think that we all new it wasn't actually a pleco, but the LFS that cichlid_freak had mentioned had labeled it a pleco, which gave us reason to do a search on it under such a name. Thanks for the great information cryosi! I can finally call it a Borneo Loach!

wrong! lots of people believe that it is a plec of some kind just because a pet store names it that!

WOW, how could anyone actually think that this fish is a pleco?!! It doesn't resemble one in the slightest! The only things they have in common are that they are both fish, and they both eat algae!

The very same! Yes.... About 3 species or so are in the trade. All are referred to by these names and look fairly similar.
