So i finally managed to find a 5 footer for a good price and went off today and got it. The stand it was with was a bit of a state so opted against taking it and the only place left for the tank to go is..... The dining table...

granted we live in a flat so most of our meals are tv on the lap ones, but still i have a feeling im gonna be in for an earfull

I dont even think "The Oscars and Parrots need more space" line is gonna work either :(

HEHE

Pics to follow in the pic section.... Thats if i survive the night.

(Also i may need some advice on transferring all my fish into a new tank, mainly about the water.)

Hmm... I'd be hesitant to set it up on the dining table. Bare in mind just how much the tank will weigh when it's full...

I am with curiosity on that one and being in a flat even if its ground floor be careful were you put it that's alot of weight unless you have concrete floors that is.

Regards onebto

Concrete Floor, Solid Hardwood Table....

I may consider grabbing the stand tomorrow, it just wasnt my colour. Nothing a bit of spray wont fix :)

Just means i have to rearrange the living room :)

+1 to the above.

Is the table supported in the middle?

yes a nice 5" beam running through the middle.

Ive decided for the stand now anyway... it just kind of makes more sense now i think about it.

It does however mean i will have to upload pics tomorrow :(

(i always feel like a child when i post on here:( its all experience i guess)

OH! the missus is fuming lol

   well done! You'll have to work hard to make it up to her.

I'd definitely go for a proper stand though. It's so not worth the risk that the table won't stand up to the weight. You wouldn't want to be posting on here in a month "OMG my table collapsed and now my fish are living in my bathtub" would you?!

Plus, then she'd be extra p***ed cuz you not only bought a larger tank, but then proceeded to break the table, ruined the carpet and generally make a big giant mess with it. ;) if she's already in a mood, why risk making it worse! :hey: :shifty:

Lol! I was just about to say this.

And just to add, at least you can appease her now by saying you're going to pick the stand up tomorrow so it's only temporary. :D

My thinking exactly....

Its all fine, shes happy.....er im getting the stand and im ordering in pizza just to sweeten the deal.

A job well done me thinks ;)

I blame you guys for advising me im over stocked! lol

Tell her its an optical illusion and it will be smaller when filled with water!

matt i like your style!! get the tank 1st then tell the missus . :good: the stand is deffinately a wise move . even my 4x2x2 holds just under half a ton of water so imagine the strain a full 5 footer would oput on the table

haha i love posts like this, always makes me laugh :p nice job on the 5 footer... im have similar plan for my living room, i sumhow have to move a 4 shelf out and put a 4foot tank in there instead :D

Well.... I'm still alive

heres a pic of the tank

Excuse the horrible wood.... as u can see on the tank i am in the process of giving it a lick of paint.
