i didnt really kill his fish that would be sick i just wanted to see what other people would do. i guess it wasnt that funny considering where i posted it but im sorry.
god bless mr.pleco :byebye:
Pff, i doubt you just made that up! Your just trying to get out of it, i dont think anyone could make up something as horrid as what you said!

Sorry about the plec... How did you put it down, it would be very handy for me to know, if i have to do something to my fish.

I have heard that you should use clove oil, put it in a container of tank water then use it. It anesthetises it first, then the fish will pass away peacefully.
Have heard of people using sharp implements through the head etc. but i doubt any of these methods can ever be considered kind.
Can`t say how much clove oil because it depends on the size of fish etc. but there are lots of related links on the web.

Sick joke about stamping on the pleco, although i doubt it was a joke. Most people on this site really love their fishes.

Sorry for the genuine losses mentioned, we lost a 12" pleco on christmas morning who was aptly named Gabriel. Very sad for all the serious fishkeepers out there.

Hmmm bit of an odd joke dontcha think?

Its hard having to put down a fish, its a choice none of us should have to make in a perfect world but thats not the case. Considering the circunmstance, different methods can be used to remove a fish..........clove oil is one method, or an overdose on a medication has been mentioned before. i tend to find that if the injury is an accident based one (i.e. heater scald, bullied {past point of recovery}, squashed/trapped by ornaments) the fish can be removed by feeding it to a larger fish if you have one.
However if it is illness, you could try O.D the fish, other methods include a blow to the head or as clares mentioned a blade, but these cant be garunteed to kill the fish outright.

Any way well done for doing the right thing and i hope your new pleco fareswell

Im sorry for your loss. When I had to put my massive red devil down I cried like a baby.

p.s. Arent jokes supposed to be funny?

sorry i am a little late with my responces. I didnt have any clove oil and he was in bad shape. I put him in a ziploc and put in the freezer. I know some people dont like that , but I couldn't "stamp" on my fish. If i could had without violating the ordinance. I would have shot the fish in the head to put it out quickly. That would have been instant. I seriously thought about it, and it may sound cruel, but it would have been the most humane way. But i used the freezer method it was the only way I knew of. It was hard to do I know. Luckily this was the first time (meaning I had never had to kill a pet before, not lucky i got to kill it)

I'm sorry about your loss rollntider, :(

Putting any animal down is hard, and it's amazing how attatched we can get to the little guys. And -ahem- how cruel we can be.

I had several losses recently myself, but this one was one of the worst:
Just recently when I was at a LFS I saw a very very sick and depressed looking betta, so I took him home to try and save him. He was getting better for a while, but still wasn't strong enough to be in the tank(he shouldn't have been in there anyway; there are gouramis and there *were* catfish in there) but someone put him in the tank while I was gone because they thought he wasn't getting any oxygen in his hospital home, and he got sucked into the filter and crushed :( Poor thing.
Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Neku
