I had have a pretty severe ammonia spike the past week and a half, I have been doing 25% water changes everyday and testing every other day. ammonia was measuring at 7 and 8 ppm at the worst it is now rapidly declining but I've noticed that nitrite and nitrate are not rising, they are measuring at 0ppm still. do I still have to patient? this is the first time I have cycled a tank so I'm not sure if it should be taking this long...

fish in, I never knew about fishless cycling until after I put fish in, thankfully I didn't let the LFS talk me into getting goldfish to cycle the tank :S

Why is it bad to use gold fish to cycle a tank?  I cycled a 75 gallon tank with used media and gold fish and PRIME water conditioner... And some water changes... I still have all my gold fish too... But I never let my tank go above 2 PPM in ammonia...
THANX

oh no I meant that gold fish are bad to cycle with if you don't want to keep goldfish in the long run :p, I want to do tropical fish, no gold fish for me :D

How long has the tank been cycling for? Have you tested your tap water levels for a base comparison?

oh no I haven't I never would have thought to do that.. thanks :)
