Hello to anyone who's reading this.

I started off with a really small tropical fish tank with a few neons in it (sounding like a newbie here). Of course as you would expect problems started to develop and in my search for answers I found this here forum website thingy. I've read many of the posts and articles since I first joined and this has helped me understand where I was going wrong and how to put it right.

After a while (many months really) I decided I wanted a bigger challenge and I wanted to put everything I'd learnt on this forum to good use. Off I went to my LFS and bought myself a Juwel Rio 180 (180 litres - roughly 40 gallons). I set it up, put in the scenery, planted it up, let it cycle, added my fish and all using the knowledge i'd gained from you my fellow members to make sure I got it right this time.

To say thank you for the knowledge and wisdom that you have all passed onto me I am including a pic of my tank in all it's glory (hope I manage to attach it right, apologies if the pics too big or not there at all as it's my first post and sorry the qualitys not the best).

Please feel free to leave any comments, good or bad, critical or not, as i'm always learning, thanks for looking and I hope you like what you see.

Sloth.

i really like that ancient statue on the right and i normally don't like anything besides driftwood, slate, and real plants, so take that as a compliment :)

Looks good, seems you have the decoration done nicely, although i can see lots of tannins in that water. You should get some carbon or do plenty of small water changes to try and reduce it, either that or take the wood out and thoroughly rinse it as much as possible.
The only other thing I would mention is that sailfin/common is going to get very large. Wouldnt you prefer to have more smaller ornamental plecs or other catfishes rather than one huge beast?

Just my 2pence!

Ben

personally, i like the tannin stain...it should gradually go away with time, but i think it adds to the natural effect

Thanks for your comments bunji :D

I did give the wood a good soaking and rinseing before putting it in the tank (another thing learnt off of the forum) but i know what you mean. I've been doing 20% water changes once a week at the moment as I reckon it'll clear in the end if I keep doing that.

I've thought about the plec situation and i realise he could get real big as a mate of mine has one at least a foot long. I kinda like him at the mo as he's the biggest fish i've got but the LFS i bought him from said they'd happily take him back if he did get too big for the tank.

Peoples 2 pences are always welcome.

nice one, sounds like you've prepared this tank well, and hopefully learnt alot from the forums!

That tank is lovely! Good work sloth1984. :)

I really like that tiki statue thingy as well. I also tend to like driftwood and stuff more but it looks really great!
