Whilst reading this month's Tropical Fish magazine, I was reading the Q&As section, and came across this:-

Letters are courtesy of members from www.fishforums.net unless otherwise stated.

Tropical Fish would like to thank the website for its participation in our Q&A pages that helps bring real life fish keeping matters to the attention of our readers. Ed.

I wasn't aware of TFF's association with the magazine. Was anyone else?

Oooh, did you find your own posts in it?

I never knew. Weird to think our posts could be published in a magazine loads of times in the past without know about it (though they probably haven't :D).

I don't remember agreeing that the content of my posts can be used in printed commercial publications when I signed up, I figured posts are automatically copyrighted to the poster.

Not that I mind at all, but I'd like to be told, if only so I can see my own writing in the magazine.

I would have thought there would be an announcement.

No, once I digested that they claim the questions are from TFF, I was looking for any which I recognised as posts I had read on here, but no such luck.

It'll be interesting to get some moderator / admin input here so we can find out what the story is.

I'd have thought if the site does have a connection to the magazine, it would be more widely publicised. Maybe i'm wrong.

Humm.... I'll look into this. Is that a UK publication you are referring to?

It's certainly the first I've heard of it. Being in the US though, I wouldn't have acces to the magazine anyway. As for the comments about copyrights, it is indeed my understanding that anything you write is yours and can't be used without your permission or without the user referencing you and where they got the information. I'm not familiar with ho the laws in the UK are though but I remember this thread from a month ago which was about copyright issues.

We will certainly see what we can find out.

As Inchworm has seen fit to remove my post which may have explained why this has happened I will PM you Rdd with the link to another forum with the same name

Inch worm, thank you for being so very vigilant and pointing out the rules to me - I did however think that in this instance it might answer the question started by this thread!

:fish:

ps while we are talking about rules, when are you going to remove all the Happy Birthdays appearing on this forum - although I do not have anything against wishing someone 'happy birthday' could it not be done by PM?

The forum mentioned is not the one that BTT was referring to as his initial comments and quotes show:

Letters are courtesy of members from www.fishforums.net unless otherwise stated.

As for birthday threads, that is a totally different subject and unrelated to the OP.

Please stay on topic. This thread is not about rules.

However, I will answer your question. At this time, the mods do not consider the removal of birthday greetings a high priority. :D

Well, for the benefit of the tape (yes, I watch too many police dramas), I bought TF magazine again this month, and they are still claiming the same thing.

Any progress with the investigation?

Cheers :good:
