Texas Growth ?

i was on holiday last week and left my carpinte (named Imhotep) to be fed by my neighbour who gave him just 3 pellets a day
when i got him he was about 0.75" long
now hes doubled in size and bulked up!
should i expect this rampant growth to continue ? or is this coincidence?
i was waiting til its larger to get it sexed but i usualy find the males grow faster, would this make him male?
or do all texas grow so fast?

Most big cichlids grow rapidly when they are young. Once they are about 6 months old they start to slow down. Under good conditions they should easily reach 6 inches in the first year.
Lots of food, (keeping them fat) and regular water changes help them grow quickly. Warm water also helps because it speeds up their metabolism and they age/ grow quicker. Big tanks will help too.

well i keep him fat and hes by himself in a 4foot tank =P
il get some pics when he gets bigger!

if he doubles in a week surely he would be bigger then 6" in a whole year ?

with cichlids around the first six months they grow grow grow, then it starts to slow down,,,,
my oscars took less than 1year to get to 8-9inches,,,,,,,,,my male jag was 9inches also in a year,,,,,,these were all around 1 - 2inches

good filteration, twice weekly water changes, good diet, higher temp will all help to exselerate there growth

a lot of fish can reach 10 inches in their first year but they do slow down as they get older. Most growth is done during the first few months of life.
