Hi i just purchased and set up a tetratec ex 700 filter. I cannot fault it at all. But i have a question regarding when you start the filter up as in fill it with water using the black button pump on the lid...when i do this it doesn't do it very well and only little by little water gets pumped through and hence it takes ages! I waas wondering whetehr anyone can tell me what i might be doing wrong?

In the end i opened the filter, filled it with water and then used the pump at the top which eventually got it running... :grr: I dont want to be filling it all the time like this. I had both the green valve taps open and the spraybar is placed just under the surface of the water, i tried out of the water and still it doesn't syphon out properly. :-(

I have the same model, works fine for me.
Is the filter under / below the tank? Or on the same level as it?

You will have to press the 'prime' button a couple of times. Also, tilt the filter from side to side to remove the air inside it. You'll need to do this for a while and you will be able to hear the air coming out.

Hi,

I have just had exactly the same thing with my EX700 Filter. The Filter is a little over two months old now and has been working fine. I gave it a good clear out tonight and cleaned the filter media in some tank water.

After I finally got the water flowing into the filter there is now a strange rattling noise coming from the impeller head, not very loud but it is there none the less. I have given the unit a shake and tryed to remove any air bubbles etc. It has been a couple of hours now and it does not seem to be settling down.

Do you think it could be time to change the impeller, although I would very surprised if it does need changing after just a couple of months.

I get that rattling noise when i clean the filter. If you get the air out it will stop. Just keep tilting it from side to side. Dont shake too fast, just tilt to one side, wait a while, then tilt it to another side, wait.. etc

Hi,

After nearly three hours the pump has finally stopped making a noise. One other thing I did notice but I am not sure if it is just me but the flow did not seem fantastic. The spray bar is located an inch under the water, so normally you wouldnt see the bar expelling water. When I first set the filter up I had the bar just over the surfae to see if any was actually being pumped and I am certain that the flow rate was a lot more powerful than what it was tonight. I gave the spray bar a good celan out with a bottle brush to remove any dirt and I also gave the impeller head a good flush through with water and wiped the impeller clean with a soft cloth. Do you think I am just being paranoid?

Thanks for the reply. The filter is under the tank in the tank cabinet. Once the water started syphoning after i filled and closed the filter manually, i was easily able to tilt and get the excess air out. But its just that whilst i'm trying to fill it, the water travels up the plastic intake thing and only a small amount is dropped intot he filter as opposed to all of it being full and syphoning out to the appropriate level so that i can switch it on. I have heard the air coming out of the spray bar when ive been pressing the prime button but still the same.

Rfisher, it does sound like air is in the filter, if you don't tilt the filter around abit it will continue to release the air in its own time and will reach full power later while there is air inside. I also have the spray bar underwater and have to go right near the water and check the water agitation to see if it's on!

I dont think you'll have anymore problems with it now that the tubes are full. When you clean the filter the pipes will remain full, so when you reconnect the filter to the pipes all the water will start to syphon down again.

Yeh thats what i was thinking, i'll have to see. I opened the filter up after a week and it didn't need a clean. I'll see in a few days. Thanks for the help
