The manual that comes with the filter gives you enough info to set the filter up but nothing re the running of it. When it comes to feeding time do ppl with the tetratec keep the flow going or slow it down. If the latter, is it simply a matter of closing the inlet valve?

Also, I have heard of ppl replacing the activated carbon with purigen. Is this a case of placing the purigen bags in the filter where the carbon bags used to be?

Hi Duke

I have just set up an ex600 this afternoon. In my manual (page 11), which incidently should be the same for the 1200, it says you can reduce the flow for feeding by turning the OUT tap anti clockwise to a 45 degree angle. I did this and it works a treat!

I assume you are correct with the purigen. I have left the carbon out as I put fertiliser in the water for my plants and i don't want the carbon to take it out. It actually says I the manual rouse on demand. I would assume you can just put the purigen in there as you say!

What do you think of the filter? I am really impressed so far. It's really quiet and the water is crystal clear already and it's only been running for an afternoon..

Hope this helps you mate.

Had mine running about a fortnight now. Seeded it with media from my old filter. Yes your right I too was amazed at how quiet it is! For a big filter it's practically silent. With yours did you get bags of carbon to put in with the carbon filter pad?

I seeded mine with my old internal filter media and fingers crossed, all is ok!!
I did get a bag of carbon but have left out as my understanding is that it will take the fertiliser I use out of the water.

Overall, very pleased!!

I have 2 tetratec ex1200's running on my 125gal and I love them :) awesome filters and iv had an fx5, 406, 405, 306 and 205 as well as a couple of internals and I find the ex1200 the best overall. For the price I wouldn't even look at any other filters. I have one of mine running with a 300watt external hydor heater which connects straight onto the ex1200's output pipe and so warm water is pumped around the tank. Therefore I have no cold spots even though I'm only running the one heater. Also means less clutter/more room in the tank :)

I'm running them both with all the media as they came, haven't changed or removed anything from either of them. I clean them in old tank water around once every 3 months but they can be left for around 6 months.

Also I never turn off the filters when feeding although again a lot of people do. I don't really think it would matter too much if you left it on, turned it down or turned it off. Not unless the fish you have are slow moving? Maybe they would find it difficult to get to the food if it was blowing about.

Forgot to add, my filters are seeding using mature media given to me by my LFS (sponge and bio balls) Readings are ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 20. PH 8.2. Readings have been the same for as long as I can remember :)
