Which tetra would look best in a large school with an amazon themed biotope?

take your pick really! How big is the tank?

rummy
neon
cardinal
penguin
lemon
emperor

.....there's lots that look good in 20+ groups

I like rummy nose ones :)

+1.mine spend 90% of their time together.

I think my favourites are the glowlight tetra and the buenos aires tetra

Is there a tetra that looks a lot like the buenos aires tetra?

would harlequin rasboras and neon tetras get along?

I've never had either, but I'm pretty sure they would. Both are peaceful fish. The harlequins are fast swimmers though, I think you'll find them better off in a long-ish tank. And tetras like to be in groups, it makes them feel more secure, so no less than 6, the more the better (depending on tank size and stocking). :good:

Easy... Collumbian Red tailed, like my Avtar. Need to be in groups of 10 or more. You can get away with less but they just hide and nip.

They would get along, but I feel I should point out that rasboras are Asian, not South America, so if you want a 'real' Amazonian biotype, you wouldn't have those

As for what's 'best', well that depends on your taste.

Rummynoses are probably the best schoolers (ie, they swim in a coordinated manner, all together); other tetras tend only to school if they feel threatened or scared, so will usually just form a loose group.

I, for instance, really like blue fish, so I have blue/green/false neons (they go under various names; Paracheirodon simulans anyway) in my Amazonian tank.

If you like red, then a large shoal of ember tetras, or red phantoms, would look gorgeous against the green plants. If you like blue and red equally, then cardinals or neons would also look lovely :)

Definately the phantoms, i prefer the black ones to red. I also like the fins on the pristella tetra's too.
