Someone recommended a test kit to me for my new tank last week ( I was complaining I'd only seen seperate tests and they were £20 each. Is this it/everything I need? ---> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NUTRAFIN-MINI-MASTER-AQUARIUM-FISH-TANK-WATER-TEST-KIT_W0QQitemZ180422051023QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Fish?hash=item2a01fe04cf

You're wasting your time with that IMO, Go for saliferts from the off, they're much more accurate and can be bought for less than £20 online for the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate kits, the Ph kit can be made by any manufacturer, they all use the same PH re-agents.

I'd avoid the API kits, I did numerous tests with them and they proved very inconsistent.

I can't vouch for the brand, but it has basically what you need minus a nitrate test kit.

Look for an API Master Test Kit if you can: http://www.petguys.com/-317163010340.html

It contains pH, high level pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate test kits and are highly rated.

Hiya,
To the OP

I use the Nutrafin mini masters

No complaints from me, and testing against my brothers (may he r.i.p) test kits he still had they are accurate

From a LFS they usually go for 17-20 quid

Had api a while back but somehow i've misplaced the blighter lol

Thanks guys. The blurb says that it does include a Nitrite test though? It says it has Nitrite, Nitrate, Ammonia and PH?

Yes, the standard set we all use are Ammonia, Nitrite(NO2), pH and Nitrate(NO3).

The most common kit used is the API Freshwater Master Test Kit.

The next most common is the Nutrafin Mini-Master Test Kit.

Both of these have the tests mentioned in the first line.

Salifert makes individual tests for all these which are more sophisticated and accurate.

Sometimes people need to use kits for GH and KH but you should wait until the need is demonstrated.

I think you be fine with any of the 3 brands mentioned above.
