Was just wondering what would be the most accurate guide of temperature in my tank. At the moment I'm using a glass thermometer stuck inside the glass and a marina plastic one stuck to the outside. I've got a 110lt tank with a 100w heater.

The thermostat on the heater is set at 34c
The glass thermometer says its 29c
and the marina thermometer reckons its only 27c

Which ones telling the truth?

Temps are high range because I'm treating ich!

Unless you have got perfect flow through your tank, then none of them will represent the actual temperature throughout the water body. They will all just give a snap shot at that point. I would take an average of the two internal ones. I have found that the externals ones are pretty rubbish in the past.

I would go by the glass one on the inside.

The outside stick on ones are a bit hit and miss and the setting on the heater thermostat are only meant as a guide.

As long as I'm not accidentally boiling my fish.

Yeah stick to the glass one, stick on one is not that accurate. And my heaters always have to be set a little higher to get it to the right temp.

I had this issue until I bought a digital thermometer with a probe. So much happier now. Actual temp = 24 degrees. Heater set at 28!

Great advice lads, think i'll look into a digital thermometer! Thank you

i have 2 heaters 1 300w fluval g and 1 150 w ? both set at 24c but the temp reads at 27c even when i had just the 300w 1 in it said 27c it goes down a little bit at night when the lights are off but all my fish are happy with that temp am hopeing to get a digital heater control

I have two glass ones and one digital one - they all say different things
