Tell me something funny

So my fourth graders are learning about Wyoming history in social studies, and in music class we've been singing some pioneer songs. Some of these songs have some pretty dark humor, because life was hard and the pioneers used laughter as a way to cope. Today's selection was "Sweet Betsy from Pike." Having discussed the difficulties of pioneers finding adequate food and water on the trail, we got to this verse:

The rooster ran off and the cattle all died.
the last piece of bacon that morning was fried. (meaning they ate their hog)
Poor Ike got discouraged and Betsy got mad;
the dog wagged his tail and looked wonderfully sad.

One of the sharper boys got this scandalized look on his face, and I asked him, "Why is the dog so sad?" He said, "THEY'RE GONNA EAT HIM!!!" Yep, his chances of making it to California aren't looking good.

Then, as the class was leaving, another boy raised his eyebrows and said, "I'm Asian. We eat everything." :lol: :lol: :lol:

Then today one of my kindergarteners asked me, "Did you see our concert last night?"
Um, yeah, buddy, I was right up front directing it!
this reminds me of the old Art Linkletter show, children say the darndest things. I am aging myself.

Reminds me of the song "Better times 'a coming"
My rooster used to chase the hens, he just kept getting thinner
'til he run hisself to death so I brought him in for dinner
pick away on the old banjo, keep that guitar strummin'
put more water in the soup, there's better times a' comin'
