I just purchased a 75 gallon tank and live in a upstairs apartment. I have read that putting a large tank on an exterior wall is the best but I am still a little nervous about all that weight. I would just die if the darn thing crashed threw the floor. Somebody please reassure me that if its done right that wont happen.

water weight, 270 kg
tank weight, 40kg ish
cabinet weight approx 30kg
gravel and decor, approx 50 kg

thats 390kg getting on for half a ton, dont do it, get a structural engineer first, piece of mind, is better than a worrying head. and an engineer is cheaper than a new ceiling

Have a professional check it out if there is any question at all. 75 gallons can cause an amazing amount of structural damage, not to mention the personal harm that may come to any residents below you if 390 odd kg lands in their lap.

Years ago, when water cooler jugs were made of glass I saw one break on a loading dock. Five gallons of water makes an instant 25 foot puddle on a concrete dock, 75 gallons would amount to a small pond size puddle.

I have a 155lt plus a 125lt plus a 34lt......all upstairs and in one room  ......about 70g (UK)

Timber framed house too  Been ok for a while now but then I like it on the edge
