Tank Stands

the new tank I have my eye on is 80x30x40cm ... definitely won't fit the stand. It says 94 litres on the shop ticket but the calculator on here says 96 litres. It's made my Marina and comes with filter, heater and light and is priced fixed at £140. Bargain or walk away?

Advice please :)

Pricey in my book, but pets at home are.

If you're stuggling locally try seapets online.

thanks Soybean. I have a question for you actually. If I got this tank (everything is pricey here in Harrogate ... we're supposed to be posh don't you know [she says sat here in my housing association flat on the biggest council estate the area has and likes to forget about] lol) will the depth be alright for the cory's. I read somewhere they don't like too much depth. By my reckoning this tank is about 16 inch deep ... where-as my existing one is 12 inch

True the best thing for them is a large base rather than the water volume being made up from height. Some like to take the odd gulp from the surface so obviously the less they have to travel the better. Some species do it more than others. However, they do this as a coping mechanism from the wild when oxygen levels drop, so as long as you have excellent circulation and good oxygen uptake in the tank, it shouldn't be a problem. Ny tank is about 40cm high. The only cory which gulps is my big albino female, she's done it in every tank she's been in. It's rare any of the others do it, except maybe in the height of summer.

Fishkeeping and budgets don't go do they? Believe me I know! It's up to you, depending on how kind Santa is, but personally I wouldn't pay £140 for a tank under 100 litres. I would keep an eye out for a good second hand deal. They DO pop up. I live in a small town and there is a fluval 200 litre tank and stand on eBay near me for just over £100. If I had room...!

Thanks Soybean, nothing is set in stone yet. A lot depends on Sunday. I'm still checking ebay for any coming up in my area. I have a large sturdy wooden blanket box next to my tank in the bay window - it's handy for buckets etc but my plan is to empty it and put a larger tank on there now. It's had 3 adults stood on it before so I know it can take weight. If a 2nd hand tank comes along that has a stand then the blanket box can go to the auction or something (can you tell I've been thinking about this a lot  )

My cory's occasionally shoot to the top but given what you've said I'm thinking the extra depth won't worry them too much
