Tank mates for Cherry Barbs?

Rubberlips are more sensitive and you must have hard water for them and a significant current in the tank or they will not thrive. So find your GH.

Loaches dig, yes, they use their barbels to find food in the substrate. So sand is necessary for them.

Try a bristle nose then. They are quite hardy!

I have a liquid GH/KH test kit coming :) If our water is not hard enough is there another hardy pleco you would recommend besides the BN?

With your temperature range in the higher 70s, could do a clown pleco, just be sure to have real driftwood as theyre wood eaters.

Otherwise theres some other more unusual and rarer plecos... but they come with a pretty big price tag.

Some other options for plecos if you can locate them and afford them that may work out for you...

Still waiting for the test kit. Should hopefully be here by Friday.

I was looking at driftwood in the mean time and it looks like they tend to lower pH. Have you found this to be true? Would it be less likely to lower the pH if I boil it and let it sit for awhile to get most of the tannins out? I'm not really wanting to lower the pH. Would driftwood significantly lower it or just slightly that my already established fish would not really notice? Is Malaysian the best for Plecos?

If you have a high KH your pH may not change.

I dont get much of a change in my tanks with driftwood, but I got a high KH too though
