I am wanting to get a tank mate for my male betta. i only want one other fish though, so i cant get a cory, cos they need groups. i was going to get a snail , but i heard bettas bite their antena.

Guppies, Mystery Snails, Minnows, Only Minnows and Guppies if the fish is right for it. I have Bling living with my guppies. so ya..

What kind of shrimp have you got with your betta lilfishie? I saw some the other day at my LFS..

Edit: Think it was cherry shrimp and another type that said they are good for eating algae!

Can ghost shimp go with them? Because they are cool, and I am thinking about getting a couple from wal*mart

I have a snail in with Rufus and he doesn't bother him at all, although he is going to be moved out of there because Rufus has a filtered tank, I don't think there's any need for the snail.

But Jai had a snail and he killed him :D

They're all so different aren't they!

oh and my lil guy Royal has a MTS snail with him, doesn't bother him at all the snail is less than a cm

no guppies, or minnows.

minnows are to lively, they are way too active and can stress the betta out.
the betta will think the guppies are bettas and attack them, i have one male VT that wont touch a guppie, i have a PK female that shreads every guppies she sees, and a red and white VT male that bites my orange guppies. so dont take the chance.

what about a betta with a red tailed shark,

also do people feel that bettas like plant cover. i tend to find they dont care about plants , as long as they have a cave to hide in.

maybe a plec of some sort, my betta lives in a community tank and he definatly doesnt have a problem with the plec! they swim at different levels and eat different foods. good luck
