 second tank is setup while i wait for substrate and filters for the juwel,

so...... tank has gravel, filter set up etc.... (just need a heater )

but while its set up , with water, the UG filter etc, what do i do next?

i tested the ph levels just to try the kit really  an ph was 7.8 and the high range ph was 7.4

only tested those at mo,

i havent treated the water or anything yet,

not sure where to start , an do i have to wait for a heater before cycling?

Do you have any mature media at all? Be it from a filter or some gravel? If so, get it in the tank!

As it's your second tank I take it you know about 'cycling' to create the beneficial bacteria you need in your filter?
A must read is this: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=113861

You don't require a heater (unless you live somewhere freezing!) In fact, many fish keepers don't use a heater at all! I don't. Obviously, make sure you have a thermometer in your tank to make sure you're within range :good:

Are you gonna get some pics uploaded of your progress? :hey:

afriad not im a newbie haha, i was half way through setting up my juwel tank, but waiting on some stuff, So setup a tank full of used gravel , docor etc. gave it all a proppa good clean today and then set it up .

now ive set it up i have no idea where to go now, to be honest i havent even used the stuff to take out the chlorine yet, i dont know how to ! lol

Go ahead and add the water conditioner to your tank, following the instructions on the back of the bottle.

And read that link that was provided in the previous post.

You will also need to get a liquid test kit, if you have not done so already, to test for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.

Sorry, just noticed, you're working with an under gravel filter? Before you go any further would you consider using any other type of filter? It's just, they can be harder work, and if at any point you want to add live plants you might run into problems... What size tank do you have?

Basically 'cycling' is where you prepare the water within your tank to resemble that of where the fish live in the wild (or at least close enough).
Unfortunately water is quite complicated stuff lol ..at least to fish!!
Have a Google for nitrogen cycle. Ammonia (toxic) > Nitrite (also toxic) > Nitrate (toxic at high levels) etc.

Be prepared to have to wait for your tank to cycle for 4 -6 weeks before getting any fish!!! It's well worth it!!!

And in the mean time get all your researchin done on here first!! (wish I had  )

Instead of google, just visit this link here:

Agreed with the under gravel filter, they are a pain in the butt!

Look into HOB (hang on back) filters. AquaClear makes some good ones!

yeh bought a api master test kit after reading alot of people recomending them as good kits.

i suppose i could look into anouther filter, whats wrong with the UG one by the way? just out of curiosity ? not majorly fussed about a large amount of real plants in this tank, as its my second tank, and my main tank is being setup with sand, large amount of real plants etc, i could of course have a floating plant and then attach anouther couple to decor?

i was thinking i need a heater as the water in the tank has settled at about 23c

obviously if a better filter is needed then that is what i will do, rather do it rite first time.

im not to sure how big this corner tank is, as i have no idea on how to work it out on this shape tank, its baffled me

mbsqw1d i shall post up some pics tomorow ;) its nuffin to look at at the mo tho

Try to draw a pic of your corner tank on paint or something, upload it to photobucket or similar sites, then post on here.

I can figure out the size of your tank if I saw a picture of it and the corresponding dimensions!

Before I give you my answer, what size do you think the tank is just by looking at it?

And do you need it is gallons or liters?
