My 90 litre tank is now in its qualifying week, I will start stocking in about a week. I was thinking of getting a couple of otto's and 5 or 6 ghost shrimp to start off, then wait a couple of weeks before getting the DP's, I was tinking maybe 4 or 5, isthis reasonable? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you set on dp's, if i were you i'd go with slightly larger puffer due to the size of the tank dp's might make it look a bit sparse.

south americans should be ok and get around 3", anything larger will eat the shrimp.
though if i were you i'd get a solitary puffer like t. miurus or suvatti and not get the shrimp or otto.

I will do some research on these, thanks

I note that the t.miurus can get up to 6" and the t.suvatti can get upto 4" is a 2'6" long tank suitable for these fish?

I'd go for the DPs still :D I'm biased though as I just love the little guys

5 or 6 in a tank of your size will be great. Mine spend as much time looking out at me as I do looking in at them so I see them lots

south americans are like hyperactive dogs and like lots of swimming room and will pace if get bored (so from what I have read).

The other two are nice though DPs are way cuter!

For a 90 litre from what I have read you could have:
6 DPS - Freshwater
1, maybe 2 South Americans (these generally do not like to be solitary) - FW
1 Abei Puffer (4 inch) - FW
1 Baileyi Puffer (5 inch) - FW
2 Figure 8's (3 inch) - Low Brackish

There are most likely more, but that is a small list to start you! Others may disagree on the capacity's, this is just generally from what i have read ;)

If getting DP's get 2-3 females per male to spread the aggressiveness. Males tend to have blue wrinkles around the eyes and a stripe on the belly (though recently learnt this could be a dominance thing). Also that when they are young they can pretty much look the same.

Oh and I am biased too - I LOVE my DPs! (But then again I am getting a Green Spotted Puffer in September :))

Dp's are great but i've kept a few puffers now and from what i've kept dp's were the most boring, once you've kept a few more you'll see what i mean, dp's are still great though.

Am still tempted with the dp's I was thinking of a couple of otto's and some ghost shrimp and maybe 4-5 dp's ?

Sorry but I disagree with that. F8's like lots of room to swim about and judging by my two (who are both more than 3 inches long), they'd be unhappy in a 90L tank. I'd go for 1 F8 and a swarm of bumblebee gobies instead if that were the case.

Actually that would be great. With the one F8, you'd get a super confident and easy to feed puffer that will get used to you and come up to the glass to look at you when you're about :D

If you still want DPs you could have 5 or 6 in there with some otos and amano shrimp and if you put the otos and the shrimp in ifrst the DPs will be less likely to be inquisitive about them :D

Now that sounds like a plan. How many bubmlebee gobies do you reckon I could put in there?

What salt do I ad dto the water, marine salt or std aquarium salt, and will my plants be ok (mostly cabomba and elodea, some Java moss)

Ok, I have made up my mind at last, i am going to go for 1 x figure 8 puffer and 5 Bumblebee Gobies, does that sound ok?

Also need to know what type of salt to add to the tank, is aquarium salt ok.

Will the plants be ok.

thanks

:)

hello you will need proper marine salt over aquarium salt as far as I am aware. You can get really large tubs for £20 and as low brackish for them should last ages! you will also need a hydrometer to check the salinity of water each time :)

Jennybugs - just going by another site recommendation, so good to get someone with first hand experience!

Not sure on the bumblebees sure someone will come to the rescue soon :)

p.s.! things like java ferns and mosses and anubias should be ok in the brackish, there may be more though!
