I was about to go out and buy some aragonite sand this morning for a Tanganyikan shell dweller tank when I suddenly had the idea to start a South American Tetra setup. In a Tanganyikan tank I can't have too many plants, but I love the shell dwellers way of life. They're so interesting! On the other hand, I absolutely adore planted tanks, but I would have to pay for another Co2 setup, ferts, etc, etc. What do you think? Which would you rather see in a journal?

haha! This is hard because I was in the same dilema a couple months ago.. I decided to keep my Malawi cichlids instead...I was sooo all for a Tanganyika set up though! They're beautiful and have such interesting personalities. I adore Tretocephalus's.

Sand would be nice for either type ;) What are your waterparameters especially hardness? If you got hard tap water go for the shell dwellers. With soft tap water go for the tetras. If you want a planted tank this is absolutely possible without high tech, CO2 and ferts. Only a decent lighting is a must.

Well can't give an unbiased opinion.
I do so like a planted tank.
As well, just have never had the itch for an African tank.
