Tanganyika Help

You wont be able to sex them. Its also only the julies that you would maybe need to rehome when you get a pair, you might be alright with two pairs. Starting with 6 is normal. The cyps and the shellys just want to be bought in a group. 6 shellys. 12 cyps. The cyps will eat their babies but the shellies should multiply. Multies would be you best bet for this.

I really like the look of the julidochromis transcriptus an the cyprichromis utintas...
The multies seem quite small... But suppose all shell dwellers are...

Some of them get quite big. For the multies have a look on ebay for escargot shells. If you do get 6, then go for a couple of dozen shells to start with.

Ok thanks... Need to get rocks an all sorted...
Rocks for a garden centre would do wouldn't they??
My local fish shop don't have the types of fish I'm looking...

Also what do you think would look better to show out the colour of the fish my background is black an was wondering if a darker colour rock like slate colour are white colour rock be best?
My ph is bout 7.6 is there any sand are something that would raise it a bit.. Is it live rock that raise it a bit as well don't really want to use this though its very expensive...

Cobbles form a brook or in woods etc work well. Yeah most likely the fish would need mail ordering from somewhere. I see you in N Ireland. Im sure there maybe a cichlid forum there that may sell them. I dont know if you have an aquarist classified there either.

Black background is good. Coral sand for the bottom. this will buffer the water a bit but your ph is ok anyway. Cheaper option would be any kiln dried sand from a builders merchants. The rocks that you will get will end up growing algae on anyway so a natural stone- slate cobbles will go green and make it more natural looking. What ever you prefer really.

Regarding the cyprichomois utinta, if you cant find them, cyp mpulunga are similar aswell. There both the smaller type of cyp that you want.

Ok thanks
