Every couple of years I have the same old trouble...finding a supplier of 1450mm flourescent tubes for my six foot tank. Every year I trawl all the websites and find, as always, that this size is generally left in the long grass compared with smaller tanks. OK, they are available but the choice is limited, little information is provided and you have to take pot luck on what when they might arrive (usually ordered as required so the delay is long)..

There must be someone out there with a six foot, or larger, tank that has solved this lighting dilemma. Where do you get your tubes, do you have LED's (are they really any good and do they really save on electricity?), what other options have you considered -- spotlights, multiple installations of shorter tubes etc.?

Lastly, I find that marine tubes of this size are much more easily available but can I use any of the colours to encourage plant growth in a tropical aquarium?

Discuss, but in any event, someone free me from this biennual problem.

My 6ft light unit holds 8 3ft T5HO tubes. The unit is for marine, but i just changed out the marine tubes for freshwater suitable
