Swordtail Died :((

hi

my female swordtail has been lying on hte bottom of the tank for 2 days and wasnt eating,
she kept hiding in crevices on the gravel bed and i didnt know what was wrong with her.
today i found her upside down on the bottom of the tank (dead).
i accendenlt squeezed her and noticed very very very minute fry started poping out of her all dead, there were at least 10+.
can someone shed some light on what could of caused her to die.
any info would be a great help.

How old was she, when they lay on the bottom of the tank it usually a bacteria infection.

Did she happen to be heavily pregnant when she died? If a fry came out she probably died while trying to give birth, although you should never handle dead fish with your bare hands though for hygene reasons- just use th enet instead and then wash the net afterwards .

she didnt give birth, i accidentally squeezed her and some fry popped out of her, they were not properly formed or owt, some only had theyre eyes, i would say within two weeks they would have been ready to birth.
im not sure whether it was a bacterial infection, ive only had her 1 week, not sure of her exact age.

She could have died while trying to give brith/miscarry her fry, this doesn't mean she gives birth to any fry at all but dies due to labour problems of some sort or through the stress.
Either way though, what are your recent ammonia, nitrite and nitrate stats? How many gallons is the tank, how long has it been set up and what it is inhabitants?
