Joe E. Brown is a hoot in this and the unlikely romance between Peter Lorre and Joyce Jameson is funny . Basil Rathbone is unrecognizable this far after his heyday as Sherlock Holmes but fans will recognize his voice . The color photography in this movie is vivid and rich , a far cry from the stuff you see today .
