Surprise High Nitrite Reading - Water Change Needed?

I'm going to check again tomorrow and again at the weekend. If everything's holding steady I'll perform a 30% water change and add 6 Cardinal Tetras.
 
Please advise if anyone thinks this is a bad idea.
