Hi all,
Ive recently installed a small sump beneath my Nano aquarium. Its lit 24/7 daylight spectrum and has Cleato in one of the compartments. After about one month It's getting rather grubby in there with other algae growing on the glass panes etc. do I leave this or scrape and syphon it out, do I need to do any more/other maintenance concerning the gunk in there.
I possible please give me a run down on how you maintain your sumps/refugiums once up and running.
Regards

i keep a few turbo snails in mine to stop excessive algae growth and siphon out any detitus when i do a water change

it's worth giving your cheato a good rinse every few weeks as it can get a bit clogged and it helps encourage growth if you spread it out a bit

I have a piece of white filter wool under the pipe that delivers the water to the sump. This gets washed out when it's dirty. The light is on at night when the tank lights are off and I scrape the algae off the front glass but don't bother about the back or sides. I syphon out any sediment that builds up on the sand bed.

Sump maintenance, there is such a thing? :shifty:

Bout the only thing I do in my sump is empty my skimmer, clean out my UV sterilizer (hopefully remembering to shutoff the bulb before I open it ), and clean my powerhead inlets of chaeto.
