Suitable Tank Mates For Oscar

I said could work as it all depends on your Oscar, as it does with any fish. I have a Dempsey and it is as soft as ice cream but can stick up for itself if needed. Dont let their reputation fool you, they are not monsters.

My convicts use to get along with my oscar until they paired.

Thanks for all the replys guys, I'm thinking of getting a severum.... But... Should i get a single 1? A pair? I do like green terrors and jacks but i think the Severum seems the better option. Should i get 1 smaller rather than a fair size because my oscars are only small??

I would get 1 small severum and let them grow together, you'll have a better chance of them getting along.

A 4ft Kuhli Loach will do nicely

Kidding!

I think severums would go nicely. Maybe a large armored catfish?

Any fish you do get, try and get them the same size / age as your current ones. Too small and they may be bullied and too large and they may become the bully.

A single Severum would be a good choice, but remember that they get BIG when they are fully grown. Most species are around 7-9 inches and like a small dinner plate. Mine is generally ok, but can get a little grumpy and snappy at points. He is the number 2 suspect for the death of one of my barbs a few months ago. The number one suspect are the other barbs. Just think about what your future plans are for the tank and what other fish you might want at some point :good:

Another invasion of the Kuhli's lol

Plans are just to have the oscars and 1... Maybe 2 other fish. Don't want to be overstocked and putting the fish at risk in any way. Could someone please give me a quick overhaul on oscars... I mean what's the best temperature to have them in, how many hours of light is beeded or good for them? and a good diet for them? How many times do they need feedin ( per day.... Week... Etc ) thanks :)

77degrees is fine. they really arent fussy about water parameters however i would imagine they originalyy came from soft acidic environments. there personailys vary massivly. i would just keep the lighting situation as natural as poss. how big is your tank. if you wnted to get some tank mates that arent big cichlids how about spanner barbs or red line torpedo barbs. some oscars might go for those fish but if yours are only 2 inches then u stand a good chance of them getting along fine if they grow up together. silver dollars are good as wel
the tank mates depend really on how big your tank is though

They are in a 55 gal at the mo. yes I know this is small. No tank mates are goin in witty them until they go in the 125 gal that I'm lookin to get within the next month then the time it takes to cycle so the oscars should be in the 55 gal for around 4 months at most I would of thought

Red Line Torpedo Barbs prefer temperate conditions. If Barbs are your thing, then I would suggest Aurelius Barbs instead :good:

torpedos can thrive at 75-77 but that is high end so Aurelius Barbs are the better option

what about silver dollars? if your oscars arent to harsh then u could look into some geophagus species or gymnogeophagus. i love geophagus altifrons

Want something with a bit more colour than the silver dollars. Think il go with the JD or green terror :) what ideally should i be feeding the oscars now at a young age and then what do i feed them when they are older?
