Okay, so I fed the fish this afternoon and then an hour or so ago I went downstairs to work on the desktop. When I left, my fish was fine. He was swimming around, flaring, wiggled at me as I left the room. When I came back up, he was dead as a doornail. Completely dead, and a few of his pellets weren’t eaten.

So I did a water test, everything was normal. I looked down his throat and cut open his gills, he hadn’t choked on anything. I looked over his body and it was perfectly normal. He hadn’t eaten anything unusual recently (I’d given some of the fish some squash, but he was not one of them). I cut him open (which I felt bad about) and his organs were all intact and looked pink.

He wasn’t old looking, a Wal-Mart VT I’ve had for a year. His fins weren’t curling or ruffling, his face wasn’t pinking. He was always very active.

I’m at a loss. He just seems to have died for no reason at all. ;_;

Goodbye Hornet, I’ll miss you. ;_;

Sorry. :/
He was a handsome betta :(

I've had 4 do that here at work over the last 2 months, leave a perfectly fine fish to come back 12 hours later to a dead fish...in full color. I'm convinced that our cleaning crew is the culprit...but in your case...I have no answers...only to say sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear your loss :-(

Sometimes there are just no reasons why they go, frustrating though it is

Wow, I'm surprised you actually went to cutting him up and investigating. Sorry nothing helpful turned up though.

I don't think i'd want to touch a dead fish, let alone one that I was semi attached to. The only dead uncooked fish I wanna touch is in a spicy tuna roll :D

Sorry for your loss though :/
