Such A Thing As To Deep?

So I got a betta today after years of owning one. I origionally was going to put him in a 2.5 gallon next to my bed so I could lay there and talk to him (yes I talk to me fish and they always respond back by coming up to me) but I was given the idea to put him in my 60 gallon with my other fish since he was just big enough to fit in.

But now I am wondering could the tank be to deep for him?

I like the idea of having him next to your bed one on one, close and personal. If you put him in with the other fish you lose that personal interaction. Thats the beauty of bettas you can get quite attached to them and they have a great personality. I talk to my fish all the time, my family thinks Im a nutter but I don't give a toss they're my little mates.

Yeah I miss that but I feel bad because he would be in a really small tank and my 60 gallon has so much room.. but I dont think hes to happy because hes just sitting there.. but it could just be because hes stressed. Thats why I'm wondering if maybe the tank is just to much for him to handel.. I never thought about that being the reason why people kept them in smaller tanks.

I have heard that if the tank is too large they just can't patrol their 'territory' sufficiently leading them to become stressed. However, that is just something I've heard and can't say how true it is...

I totally talk to my fish too. I don't mind the stares my husband give me. He's ignorant.
Anyway, do you think your betta would like the company of the other fish? I know that there have been bettas I've had in the past that I've known they were lonely. (The one I have now is too aggressive to go with other fish.)
Also, is it a deep 60 gal tank? At some point I learned that you shouldn't keep your bettas in tanks that are too deep because it's can be a long swim up to get air. Granted, I've never heard of a fish that suffocated... so I guess it's up to you to decide what to do

If you put him i nthe 60 just make sure he has tall plants to rest near the surface. He should be fine if he gets along with his tankmates.

I have a few tall plants but he never rests in them. It's funny though because I had a male gourami in there that would bully the females and now my betta bullys him keeping him in his place!(the gourami is much bigger than my betta) I would have never thought that would happen! Only issue is that I keep loseing him.. a 4 foot tank with such a small fish. But he seems happy It's nice watching him when he sees his reflection too.

bettas and gourami should never be kept together, i would remove the betta and put him in the 2.5 gal, they both patrol the same area of the tank (top) so there will be fights over this, i know from experience

Ive been watching for the past 3 hours and they never even mess with eachother. The betta flares at the male gourami and the gourami runs away. But I might put him in the 2.5 because I read on a different forum that plastic plants can damage fins and his were already damaged when I got him.. so last thing I need is his fins getting damaged even more. :\ I just keep stalling myself though because he seems so happy in there..

I also recommend putting your Betta in the 2.5 gallon tank. He would undoubtedly be happier in the big tank, if it weren't for the big Gourami hanging around in his territory! Male Betta and Gourami will fight! As long as you give him a heater and filter in the 2.5 gallon he will be just as happy and you will get to interact with your new friend each day. What else is in the big tank? I know Betta will also fight with certain types of algae eaters and they like to nip fancy guppy fins!

Just some info to help you decide on the size tank needed for your betta. Fish experts often note 1inch of fish per 1 gallon of water ratio as a safe measurement. So yes don't use anything smaller than a 2.5 gallon tank (10Ltrs)

Well, I was finally going to move him into the 2.5 gallon today but I had to use it as a hospital tank for a guppy.. (long story) now hes in a 10 gallon with a couple other guppies. He's going to get mad being moved around so much! But he wont be in there forever. My friend is giving me a 10 gallon tank that she has for a frog a couple years ago. I just need to get the gravel and everything for it then he will have it to himself as a final home. My mother was making me feel guilty about having him in such a small tank away.. at least he'll still have a lot more room

Do betta fins grow back or do they stay the way they are if damaged? My lfs that I got him from had him with a couple other fish and well he looks a bit like a crown tail now although I love thoes too but he's not a crown tail lol.

Keep your eye on his tail make sure he hasn't developed fin rot and yes fins grow back but don't expect it to be the same colour Just thought of something.....if you have him near your bed and you have a filter going non stop......will that stop you from sleeping? Some of these filters can get pretty loud especially at night.
