Hopfully not too contentious.

For the UK members.

yes there should. i get the day off because of it =D + its a way to change something which people dont like

My take on it - just be grateful you have a job, if you're not happy with the working conditions I'm sure one of the 1.6M unemployed 16-24 year olds (including myself) would be happy to take your place.

I can't see the government changing their minds anyway, just grit your teeth and get through it like everybody else must, those striking make it sound as though it's the end of their lives because of a few cuts to their pensions, you'll get through it.

Obviously I can tell that you are very young and inexperienced, only thinking about today and not your future......think about your parents for a little while.......think about them having to make more contributions and work more years before they could retire.......didn't think bout that eh !

My god trade unionists why do they still exist? They are only required in anyway shape or form in politics, working environment? I dont think so. Getting paid still when all your union follows strike?

How does it benefit bringing everyones lifes to absolute chaos, just because your whinging over not getting as much pay as when you finish work?

At the end of the day, your not going to require what ever x% of your wage when you quit, because lets face it. Your not working, you wont travel as much and overall expenses will not compare to what you outlay now?

Its just that because of everyone whining about it ordinary people have to suffer.

Overall strikes are never beneficial in anyway.

My brother bought a house with his fiance, ended up that his work went on strike for a prolonged period and with him working everyhour under the sun to afford his home and living, the strike put him in the absolute pit. What happened after the strike? Nothing! except a bunch of workers following their union boss never got paid but did he? Oh I think so.

Ah what ever I now have ran out of steam but wanted to get it out there.

Teachers strikes alone are bad enough. Work half a year? please! whinge all you like

Rant Over :)

Strike action is always a last resort action. Never taken lightly.

I work in the NHS and our pension fund is in the black. It was changed 4 years ago through proper negotiations but this government don't know the meaning of negotiations.

Bunch of toe rags.

Just my opinion :hyper:

Juggernauts, I have no intention of getting into any debate with you mate, but try and get your facts right before posting such statements.....as my earlier post said, this strike is about protecting your future....I do Employment Law, and I can assure you that trade union reps do not get paid when others strike. Have you any idea how many cases these reps deal with weekly at Employment Tribunals when members screw up ? Please don't knock them till you walk in their shoes.....

I'm being a scab and going in to work. Mainly for the reasons that juggernuts says. As a homeowner and a father I can't afford to lose a days pay. My wages get stretched pretty hard each month so a days pay being taken away is a no no.

I understand the reason behind it, but in reality, 1 day of strike action will just be a drop in the ocean. Plus, the last strike that I took part in was due to pay rises. They offered 2% and the unions said no its not enough so we went on strike, then the following day they accepted the 2%. Erm... Yeah thanks for that!

I don't have a future if I can't get a job, everybody is feeling the cuts, not just those in the public sector. The cuts are necessary and if people need to work a few more years to bring down the deficit then that's just how it has to be.

Your branch should have a hardship fund set up to deal with people who would be in financial distress after the strike mate....

Agreed

I am no longer in a union due to their incapability to to stop the management walking all over their staff. If this fund was available then wouldn't that just make more members want to claim their wages back?

They are no longer as strong as they used to be unfortunately.

Rillo, you dont get paid any extra AT ALL for being a unionist? Seriously?

So you take on the extra work of all your collegues troubles and hardships because your purely a nice guy, no extra incentives?

If this is the case then why not just work a few years more if your really a genuinely caring guy?

Your branch treasurer will look at the case you put to them explaining the hardship you face and make a decision on it......some branches have a team to deal with this.

Yes juggernuts.... Union reps are NOT paid extra for representing members. Reps do it for people who cannot stand up for themselves.
