I would check that one out before you publish it, Ludwig. A few weeks back I happened upon a site of movie myths. It said that this is a myth, as is the "fact" that a stuntman died whilst filming the chariot race, and the footage was left in. There is also a "fact" that a Munchkin hangs himself in a scene in Wizard of Oz, which apparently also is a legend.

Try searching Google Images, or YouTube - if there is no obvious image of video of it, then I'd say it's not true.

That's interesting. We did primary school projects on Ben Hur back in the 80's and the death of the stuntman was common knowledge. Wiki says it's not true, too.

Just did another quick read-up. The rumour apparently started when one of the other stuntmen claimed that it happened in front of him, but this was later refuted.

BUT

"Ben Hur" was, according to Wiki at least, the first time in MGM's history, that the opening credits featured a silent Lion, rather than the traditional roaring lion.

This film was the 2nd remake of the film, the previous one was in 1925. The chariot race scene obviously had a lot of extras in the crowd. Amongst them were a young Joan Crawford, Douglas Fairbanks, Sam Goldwyn and Harold Lloyd.

Harold Lloyd was always my favourite silent movie star, we used to have his films shown on BBC2 just before dinner when I was young, and I enjoyed his films much more than either Chaplin or Keaton. I found out literally 2 minutes ago, when I was checking that the Harold Lloyd in the Ben Hur crowd scene was the same Harold Lloyd, that he died on the same day that I was born, 43 years ago next Saturday.

The mention of Chaplin reminds me... a fact I previously used.... Charlie Chaplin once entered a Charlie Chaplin look-alike competition... and... he won third prize.....

Studies show that if a cat falls off the seventh floor of a building, it has about thirty percent less chance of surviving than a cat that falls off the twentieth floor. It supposedly takes about eight floors for the cat to realise what is occurring, relax and correct itself.

My statistics indicate that 9 out of 10 cats prefer not to be used as guinea pigs.

How many cats died during this study?

How about:

* Humans share approximately 96-99% of their genome with chimpanzees.

* Some humans taste numbers, hear colours and smell sounds.

* Your limbic system is responsible for regulating the four fs of behaviour: fighting, fleeing, feeding and....reproduction.
