Hi,

I was hoping someone could advise about a growth I've noticed on my pleco's right pectoral fin, shown in the pic below...

(or viewable at the following web page
photos )

The end of the outer part of the fin has swollen up (approximately the last 7mm or so), and on the very end is a strange growth sticking straight up in the air (about 4mm long). It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all and he's behaving normally.

Is this something I should be concerned about, and if so, how do I treat it?

Thanks very much for any advice!

Andy

Stange, it looks the same colour as him the stick up thing, can you feel it to see if it feels like a bone, or like it's filled with liquid.

Hi Wilder, thanks for the super fast reply.

He won't usually let me get near enough to feel his fin!

My guess is that it's fleshy, since (as you've noticed) it's the same colour as the rest of him.

Thanks,

Andy

Never seen anything like it, i wondered if it was a bone that had grown as I have a fancy goldifsh with a lumpy bone thing on his back where his dorsal fin should of grown.

How long did it take to go like that.

Talked to black angel and she thinks it might be this.
It looks like the plec broke the leading edge of his fin and its setting like that. I dont think the fish will feel it too much but he would need to keep an eye on it and if the swelling doesnt go down then he would somehow need to get it some antibiotics.
