Now i have a green terror, had it around 4 months. Its a lovely fish. not sure on sex as no hump, but it is only around 4/5 inch long and quite puny.

This is not the problem,

the problem is i have never seen it eat, ever, not in 4 months. It also is not growing like i imagined it would. (at all). In the tank there is 2 small females convicts and one 5/6 inch male. a firemouth 7 inch and a bunch of smaller cichlids. Its not being bullied as it never ate before i got the other fish.

Now i think maybe it needs live food as there was live food in its tank where i bought it from. now i am no eco warrior but i dont feel right just buying fish to let them die. But then again i dont want my GT to die of starvation. And it seems perfectly fine anyhow.

what should i do? should i try live food, where do i get feeder fish? is there anypoint if the thing seems fine just never eating the food i give it?

anyone who has owned a GT in the past who has any info would be a great help.

to be honest its my first GT and dont really know how they should act, just mine isnt terrorish at all,

thanks

I think you should drop the attitude Glenbo...

Though it is a good question, what size tank are the fish in? What are water stats like/have been like over the past few weeks? What filtration do you have on the tank?

Oh by the way as a side note, just thought I should ask, have you got a plan for the GT as it matures? Presuming there isn't a health problem and it just needs training onto frozen foods, pellets etc then it will eventually need it's own tank for the safety of your other fish.

WTH

to be honest glenbo you did not use the rite words and it came across with attitude

Really?

Ok then,How else do you put it tho :S I don't get it.

'What size tank do you have this large amount of cichlids in'

?

Theres no easy way to ask a blunt question.

It was the phrase 'cramming with all these Cichlids', it implies you're making a presumption about the conditions they are in as opposed to thinking "Well tank size/overcrowding may be the issue so I will ask"

It was also the fact it was only one line. So unless over-crowding/tank size is the issue then we weren't going to find out as
A) You didn't ask a range of questions to help people assess the problem
B) You didn't give any sort of advice

Ps. I'm not jumping on your back, it may have been an innocent question you were asking, that was until you decided to insinuate that I was trying to imply things about the OP. Eitherways, this is off topic, no hard feelings I hope!

Your jumping on my back IMO

Its a fair question,I mean the fella does not even know the names of half of the cichlids in his tank.

Straight Question, what size if your tank? if he answers that then we can move on to other possibilitys, and considering a guy is keeping a Severum and Gourami in a 5 gallon in the previous thread, anything is possible.

I think theres a confusion in communication here,Sorry Peoples :)

ok i see the miscomunication........

the phrase what size tank are you cramming mereley means what size tank do you have. (nothing to do with how many fish)
a bit like what kicks are you sporting? (what shoes are you wearing?) or the like. So no offense taken and thanks for the quick defense anyway curiosity.

to answer the question.......i have a 4ft X 2 X 1.5 tank. Water parameters are allways stable (tanks been running for ages and i do my water changes every week) it doesnt seem sick and its not like its behaviour has changed, its mereley that it doesnt eat the food i give it. whether it eats something else (possibly convict fry when its around)

p.s i know all the names of my cichlids, i know how fast they grow normally, i know their compatability, i dont just hit and hope like i think you implied. (tut glenbo).

oh and to answer the other question. my local fish store take back any problem fish i have for store credit. So i figure if my GT does become a monster, which to be honest i dont see happening with this one (but i have been wrong before.....convicts have a way of lulling me into a false sense of security) they will no doubt take it off my hands.

anyone ever have a GT with a small appetite? from what i have read and discussed with the LFS they are supposed to be quite active feeders.

probably just a fussy eater, and it sounds like theres alot of competition for food aswell. are your other fish growing?

most are,

i figure my firemouth wont grow much more, the others seem to be growing, my pearl has doubled in size in the time i have had the GT.

Hello mate, how doe's the fish look health wise?

I had a jag cichlid and when i moved him to a different tank he wen't of food for two month's approx, as in never ate a bite, he was only one in tank, i tried

him on everything, then one day he just decided to eat, cichlid's can be very finiky fish...

What type of food are you feeding you fish?

what type of pecking order seem's to occour at this time, and wilst this is happening what doe's the gt doe, i have had a couple of young gt's in my time and

they grow so slow compaired with all other cichlid's i have kept,

Have you tried feeder shrimp from local fish shop,or chopped prawn's<all my fish go crazy for chopped prawn's/blood worm/dried mealworm's<you can buy

a big tub at local garden centre's<there ment for garden bird feeding and are 100% natural>my chocolate cichlid love's them>hilraki green or red packet

may take a while to get the fish onto something if he was previously kept solely on feeder fish<which usually have no nutrious value's..

oh yes whats the temp of the tank?

hy, I have had two gt's from 1 inch, there now between 8 to 9 inch and ive have had no probs with feeding but they are fussy eaters ! they will only eat blood worm or the floating sticks.
I have large clown loaches an oscar and a serverum in the tank and I give the oscar a king prawn to keep him busy while feeding the gt's, they never have probs getting there share.
so dont know if you have tried the floating sticks but mine love em its there fav food ?
good luck they are fantastic fish !!! :good:

Thats some great advice thanks.

The temp is 25c, the pecking order in normal state, is firemouth, convict, rainbow, gt, then the rest, (they dont really get into disagreements anyway) so i guess of the aggressive largish fish i have it is the weakest. but during feeding time rank goes out of the window as every fish in the tank goes nuts for the food except the GT who just wanders around un interested. I am pretty sure it would eat blood worm, but the problem is everthing else in the tank would eat it before the GT.

at the moment i have 3 kinds of cichlid pellets, sinking pellets, i try daphnia, bloodworm, brine, all my fish love it......except the GT.

The fact you said they are slow growing soothes my worries a bit. how slow are we talking? cos mine maybe has grown a cm in 3/4 months.

thanks for all your replies everyone.
