Stress is also caused by your water conditions or by fish chasing or picking on each other. Good Luck

That could be both in my case then as you know my waters were atrocious at the weekend until I joined this forum and learned the error of my ways and not listening to LFS staff!! As for the picking, all’s they do is chase and pick on each other! They don’t hardly swim together, again this could be the fact they are in a small tank (25l) and there’s only 6 of them! (Again LFS advice) :(

He could be a male and he is claiming the territory he thinks is best for spawning. I don't have neons but I have a group of emperor tetras. The males each have their own territory (ie. a bunch of plants) and they will chase other males away and try to entice the females to it.

He's fine from a disease perspective and is just staking out his territory.

You should do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate any day you have an ammonia or nitrite reading above 0, or a nitrate reading above 20ppm.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

If you had a darker substrate they would show better colour. White substrates cause fish to fade in colour.

Thank you, iv been doing 50-75% water change every day because I’m currently cycling the tank! Fed them this morning a bet small/just enough amount and did another water changed and been checking water parameters every day. Today the read :

Ammo: between 0-0.2 (lower than yesterday)
Nitrite: between 0-0.25 (lower than yesterday)
Nitrate: 10.0 (higher than yesterday)

I can only assume that the nitrate levels have gone up again due to the ammo and nitrite levels lowering each day which surely should mean the tank is on its way to being fully cycled?? :) I will keep checking every day though and doing water changes every day when needs be! I did another 50% water change this morning and I do always use water conditioner before putting new water in and match it to the temp of water already in as well best i can :)

Brill thank you :)

How is your bully doing? I have a shoal of 15 neon tetra and have not seen much bullying, usually they are chasing around a female.

Lol they all chase each other so I seem to see anyway quite abit! He’s now swimming up and down in his spot again since iv turned my lights on chasing anyone who comes near him! lol god sake!! Poor other fishes! :( they just stay clear of him when he starts must do their heads in though!

They are a shoaling fish so he should settle down, I have seen males hanging around plants like Java Fern and trying to entice females. Neon tetra like leafy plants and shade. They come from jungle streams so some floating plants may help them settle down too. They have a fear of birds so I would suggest adding more plants. I have easy to care for plants like anacharis, water sprit and hornwort that you can "plant in your sand/gravel or let float. I have several different ferns in my tetra tank that you can attach to wood or stone and they all get what they need from the water. If nothing else reduce the amount of light so it is not as bright for them :)

Im hoping by time all my plants are in there and grown then they might settle down thanks ! :) iv just altered my fake plant leaves near the top to dim the light abit! That’s why I don’t have the light on that much really cuz iv read they don’t like lots of light but obvs when my frogbit gets here it will help! :) thanks! I have a feeling he’s just going to be an awkward fish! Haha

Frogbit is good, I have floating hornwort where my 2 glow light tetra fry like to hide in. I have been thinking of getting fropbit. I like the way the roots hang down I think that will really help.

Aww lol it was my favourite out of the floating plants that I looked at yeah think it looks really natural so decided on it! :)

Here is a picture of my glow light tetras fry in the hornwort. They would swim out fast and grab food and back into the hornwort at feeding time so I started to just drop a little food into the hornwort. I went to feed them yesterday and they both were waiting:fish:

Haha look at them just hiding out in there! Look well cozy! Looking at ya as of say come on then when ya ready! Lol

Another good plant that is easy to care for is Anacharis and you can let float, I like to plant it and my neon, ember and glow light tetra seem to like it. You can see all three types of tetras in this photo, I call this the forest. I am going to add more shortly I have it growing in my shrimp tank
