Stop PETsMart in their tracks!

Here are a couple of good signatures from the petition that make me laugh:

8. Lavone Zeviar No living thing should be sold in a pet store.

10. Brande Zeviar Anything living does not belong in a pet store

:) The Petsmart near me gave me free fry (which I love to raise) and that's the only place where I buy my live plants. I tried buying fish from Petco, but they either died or carried a disease. I don't get anymore fish from Petco after all the experiences with them.

I commend your wanting to stop any negative actions that Petsmart may do, but everyone has a choice whether to shop there or not. Our Petsmart gets puppies from the POUND to sell on Saturdays and people scoop them up :D much better than the alternative.
I have a great gal that helps me out with all my fish questions and supplies. It's a very positive place to shop and even my kids like it better than the LFS. JMO though. :)

I never had a problem with Petsmart but at petco i watched this guy chase this poor sick fish around with his net and then sold it. It was clearly sick and could not keep up with the others. I wanted to say something but didn't.

I think the workers need more experience and compassion for the trade in all stores that lack these needed characteristics.

I now ask a few questions before buying any fish.
Its probably not a bad idea to ask them to do some water tests before you buy as well.

We test our water twice a day! :)

I don't get why this thread was resurrected! Clearly some PetsMarts are better than others, and some shouldn't be allowed to sell fish. If you don't like the fish you see at *fill in the blank* ... don't buy them!

PETsMARTchick i didnt mean any disrespect.
1 store does not speak for them all as heresmike says and i agree.

P.S. this is the first time i seen this thread (never noticed the dates till now). :*)

there are so many fish, that they all cant live, especially during shipment, no matter how good the place is. its just like humans, babies are born all the time and every once in a while one dies. i dont think fish are treated that bad. of course, in some cases they are. you will always have exceptions. We sell cigarettes to our own people, and we are killing ourselves.

if u want a good pet store that will lose no fish, then expect to pay 5,000$ per fish as they carefully ship each fish in a nice aquarium, at 1 mph to not disturb the water.

yeah thats what i thought

well if then petsmart are so great did they get so many complaints here in the UK that they had to sell to PetsAtHome? I will be signing the petition.

I want to make sure that I understand the petition correctly. They want PetsMart so stop selling live animals?- why...? All the animals I buy from there usually never die, usually it is my mistake that kills the pets I buy there.

QUOTE]

Some Petsmart stores first of all sells puppymill and kittenmill animals. Which I find very distubing. Second the people taking care of the pets there dont have the proper training and dont know what they are doing. Pets should only be sold by a breeder who properly screens the prospective buyers to ensure the animal will have the best home possible. A proper breeder will want to know a little about the person buying a dog and will discourage impulse buys, or picking the wrong dog for their lifestyle.

I have to disagree with that. I had a parakeet that die that I bought from petsmart. I acknowledge it wasn't their fault and even my vet gave it a clean bill of health (they offer a responsible per owners consultation for free if you get a new pet). I took it back and was crying my eyes out. They offered me a brew in their staff room and showed me around behind the scenes. They had allsorts of "pets" - animals that couldn't be homed like an aggressive bunny and 2 macaws that couldn't be separated (take a lot of space). If they weren't responsible they would have sold those macaws for the £4000 each they could have got... Any in the actual tea room they had a chart on the board. It had each employees name on and different topics at bronze, silver and gold levels. All employees have to have completed their bronze before they are let loose (before that they go on hte tills) and the majority of the staff seemed to be on silver or bronze. I was REALLY impressed. They were all so nice and seemed knowledgeable.

Anyway as for the bird... they have babies arriving tomorrow and they have said I can take my pick and can even visit every day until it is out of quarantine (3 weeks). I'd say this was pretty responsible so I'm not going to sign the petition either. Oh and as for their fist the tanks are always immaculate and any fish that have died have been through my own ignorance...

I can tell you in the greater philly area and suburbs I've been to a lot of the pet-smarts petco's and wal-mart stores.

The petsmarts by me have a nice selection and a really great fish section overall. the petco is probably the nicest of the chain stores. Wal-mart is ok but the biggest problem there is theres never anyone near the fish section and they don't know anything......plus the fact that wal-mart near me doesn't sell and water test kits disturbs me.

I actually may buy my next tank from petsmart depending on the quality of their "top-fin" brand tanks.
